I have been told that I can add my dedicated stereo Ayre Ax7e to my home theatre, Onkyo TX NR838 so I can take advantage of my Vandersteens that are hooked up to the Ayre Ax7e. So far, that has been a bust. I have hooked up the Onkyo to the Ayre,. via the Zone 2 & 3 pre amp. I have not been successful. I have watched a couple of YouTube video and still no success. Waht can I be doing wrong?

Did you follow the Ayre manual instructions for such using the main zone l/r pre-outs? Starts on page 9....

Yes, I have unplugged the Ayre, let it idle for 10 seconds, pressed the Star input and plugged it back in to get the PP for that channel. I have used both the Pre out 2 and Pre out 3 of the Onkyo and also attached the RCA plug to Home Theatre RCA outs front channels on also the back of the Onkyo.

Why are you using the zone 2 or 3 pre-outs instead of the main zone L/R Front pre-outs?

Good Question, I thought I had to hook it up through Zone 2 or 3...I will check that out when I am back at the condo this weekend.

Makes no sense to use zone 2 or 3....but that Ayre manual isn't very well written, either....

No, I actually did attach the RCA plugs to the Pre Out front channel and still no sound through the Ayre. There may be something wrong with the Onkyo, it is an Atmos receiver and it never will engage to Atmos mode. When I had it in my home in north jersey, it did engage, but hasn't in the shore area condo. It has 11 speakers hooked up and no Atmos and I have reset the receiver a few times. I will probably have a tech come in and re-wire everything. I really do not want to get a new Home Theatre, but that may be the answer to my problem.

Does your avr have an amp assignment feature? Normally pre-outs are always live, though. I'd suspect the Ayre until its sussed out. Why would you need to re-wire let alone hire someone to do that? FWIW doubt you'd gain anything with the Ayre anyways.

I have never been happy with my home theatre set up at that house. It is just ok. I need a tech to come in and just re attach all of the speakers, do a better job of wire maintance and calibrate it all. I have run from my Oppo 205, BBC blu rays through the Ayre and they sound fantastic, so I figure what the hell, see if I can incorporate the Vandersteens into the home theatre why not give it a go. So, that is where I am.
