Settings on Denon AVR-X3700H - losing sound

Just got this AVR in and installed. Was going good, watching tv through a FIOS one box, switching to the Smart TV sources (music/video). Sound is a bit lower than I would expect with the Cable vs. directly from streamed source through TV back to eArc. Then, kids go to watch something on demand through Fios. No sound, have video going good, but nothing. Have to turn the AVR off and then back on to get sound.

Do I have a setting off, somewhere? This is not a good first 5 hours with this one.

Could just be a HDMI hand shake issues, or poor connections somewhere within the signal chain. Also, you can't expect the same volume position would fit all input sources, it is normal for certain source/input to be louder or quieter.

There's also a level adjustment per input so you can even different source levels out. Good luck with figuring out what's the issue, but does sound like possibly a handshake issue. Might try an optical output from tv instead of ARC....

Tried all new ultra high speed HDMI's to all connections (cable to avr - avr to tv). Still happening. And now when I power up, the unit turns on, starts up with everything, starts playing sound, and then turns off.

Think I'll try resetting it today, to see if there is something with that.

If I use optical, would that lose sound quality?

Optical will limit you to Dolby Digital 5.1 and will not pass Dolby Digital+/atmos from the TV streaming services.

I think, I may have figured this out...Using a Sony Bravia TV, about 4 years old. Went through all the freaking settings and nothing...then went in and looked to see if there was a software update. Even though I have it set to auto, had 3 huge updates get pushed out. So far, have been cycling on/off/on and it is catching correctly, without sending the TV speakers only back to the Denon.

Fingers crossed, this is it.
