LOL I figured some might be near sea level, but you measure it in inches? :) 3 ft of snow is pretty good, tho....didn't get storms like that even in Chicago very often (I do remember a 6 footer, tho).

33 inches I saw in Medham I think? Definitely over 30 inches in spots.

That's just wrong.

It was 10 years ago today that Milwaukee was dumped on- that one sucked, too. 1995 was another, as were '73, '77 and '78.

I agree, very, very wrong for Jersey. This isn't North Dakota or Wyoming!

12.9 Inches in my neck of the woods Sat/Sun last week. Of course my snow blower breaks, while under warranty, it is taken two weeks to fix, bought a new one and will sell the old one when repaired. It's and Ego, so I can just sell the batteries and wall charger for $250.00 w/o snow blower.

I cold understand if it was Canada, but.....:)
We only received about 15cm yesterday, before it changed to rain. I don't know how much liquid fell, but my commute home was like driving through a river in spots. It was blowing a gale too, but we didn't lose power, thankfully. Also thankfully, the temperature has stayed up (+ 7°C right now). If it had dipped below freezing, we'd be in a bad way right now, with all the water around, which will now have a chance to dissipate before the temperature drops below freezing.

It's a Winter Wonderland!

Meh.

One time, we got close to a foot of fresh, sparkly snow and I waited to clear it until it had slowed to the point of almost stopping. I was doing fine and about halfway through, it became harder to push through and was packing at the top. Since I had been looking at the snow as I went, I hadn't noticed the change until I looked up- it was raining. It was only a very light mist, but it still soaked the top and made it harder to move.

I have a 105' long driveway and 65' of sidewalk across the front yard. That was truly a wonderful experience.

You need a plow, not a snowblower. My driveway is about 3 car-lengths long, so not bad for shoveling. A snowblower wouldn't be worth the cost or storage space.

I'm not getting a plow- most of the time, it's not that bad but when a snowblower quits, well, you know.

I grew up with someone who worked for the water department in this small city and not long after I bought this place (might have been '96 or '97), they sent him out to clear some of the alleys, one of which is across the street. He saw me in more than a foot of snow and pulled over to tell me to get out of the way. He drove up the driveway, dropped the plow and dragged 75' of it into the street, then plowed it to the curb before honking, waving and driving away.

For larger jobs that need to be shoveled, I have a grain shovel that works great- the kind that are just pushed are useless sometimes and I have shoveled the whole thing, even heavy snow.

I look at that as a good workout. Yeah, that's it- a good workout.

I was kidding about the plow. I don't mind shoveling - except when it's 6am and I need to get to work.

I wasn't- the day after closing on this place and after we got dumped on- my day started with digging myself out, then doing the same at my parents' house before heading here to be able to go into the garage or house. My dad stopped by and asked how it was going and I said "I'm getting a truck with a plow!". The sidewalk at my parents' house had a 3' drift and at all three places, the streets and alleys had been plowed, which means the snow was over 3'.

I guess the answer to that is to park at the end of your driveway and get a pair of snowshoes.

for those of us on the 'leeward' side of the Great Lakes 3' is a mere dusting.............

I was living out side of Fulton, NY for the Feb 1 storm in '66, we had 110" in three days. As for Montague, I was there snowmobiling 1/11-12/97 when they got the unofficial 24hr snowfall record, Silver Lake Colorado(1921) I believe is still recognized by NOAA as holding that record. As for the famous blizzard of '77 I was 3 years into my railroad career and stuck in a cabin south of Bflo when that one hit.

So when folks down here outside of Philly talk about winter I remind them, you can spell the word but you have no clue !

I remember the storm in '66 but we never saw 110" in three days. I'll pass.

I was just kid, 6th grade, I remember coming home from Church on that Sunday when the storm started, my Dad was working 2nd trick. He went into work that afternoon, we didn't see him for a week !

A friends' dad was a cop and he had gone to the state crime lab for training and he didn't make it back for a few days, but again, we weren't hit as hard. It wasn't terribly cold, so we had a great time with our days off from school.

I got a soaker.

The leeward side of the great lakes can get pounded. In SE Wisconsin, we've been picking up lake effect so it's enhanced the last two storms. Not sure why people panic so much. It's snow. Ride it out, clean it up after, live moves on. Course, the last one dumped over 9" and drifted it with it being wet snow. Got the skidsteer stuck on the first pass. Some choice vocabulary issued over that...

I've ridden out several blizzards in Fargo and outside of Fargo. Was holed up for 3 days once with my in-laws. Whew! Survived that.

I can beat highfigh as my driveway is about 135 long and curved. I gave up on the snowblower and got a lawn tractor with a 46" snowblower. Works great except for the really big storms that hit about every 10 years or so. Then I have to make multiple passes.

Aaannnndd...it's snowing again.
