Subwoofer Randomly Stops Working

Over the last couple of weeks, my subwoofer has been randomly stopping working. If I toggle the volume dial on the subwoofer, I can get it to work again for a while but it will eventually stop again. It also won't re-start after it's been idle or turned off for an extended period of time unless I toggle the volume dial.

There are no power issues and I'm not using standby mode, it is on all the time when I'm using the HT system.

Is the problem likely with the subwoofer itself or the pre-amp? Audyssey can find the subwoofer although, again, I have to toggle the volume for it to be found.

If the problem is with the subwoofer, is it an easy fix or should I start looking at upgrading?

Subwoofer is a Canton 12.4.

Appreciate the insight

The good news is that Canton still sells this sub, so parts are likely available. The issue is almost certainly in the sub and not in the pre-amp. You probably need a new amplifier assembly. The warranty is two years. Whether or not it's still under warranty, I'd contact Canton for instructions about what to do.

I'd try cleaning the volume pot with the appropriate cleaner....

Thanks,
The subwoofer is about 10 years old, well passed its warranty. Now that Canton has a new distributor in the USA, I"ll try to get in touch and see how easy it is to get parts.

Have you tried the sub in the ON mode, rather than the Auto On mode? I'm wondering if the auto on mode or its timer is misbehaving.

Yes, my sub us set to ON, not Auto On mode. Sorry for not making that clear in my post
