Why today’s loudspeakers average smaller size woofers ?
Older models from 80s had bigger woofers do these image less well ?
My uncle has old jbl with 12” woofers which are impressive a studio model . Bigger then this model https://www.crutchfield.com/S-OT0eRsYudZL/p_109L82BK/JBL-L82-Classic-Black-grilles.html?XVINQ=SWK&XVVER=010&awkw=293946777986&awat=showcase_product&awnw=g&awcr=282822109591&awmt=&awdv=m&awug=9015551&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp4zenr2x7gIVgobACh2_4gGMEAQYCiABEgLOjfD_BwE

Anything with woofers over 8” is incredibly expensive today and rare .
Maybe thinner profile sells much better ?

This model I’m angry was discontinued... pioneer you suck !! Pioneer SP-FS52 Home Audio Andrew Jones Designed Floor Standing Loudspeaker, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NCD2S4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_S88cGbB2X4K0C
I have one pair of Klipch icon duel 6.5” which sound pretty good for cheaper model .. have yet to move them downstairs. Sadly only 2 way so limited midrange.
As an example,
I’m talking loudspeakers as subwoofers today obviously are huge .
My uncles model was close to this one and they still work well . Only were repaired once https://www.safeandsoundhq.com/products/jbl-4312g-classic-3-way-12-studio-monitor-bookshelf-loudspeakers-open-box-pair?variant=32127976046703&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google Shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrvTg-72x7gIVAtvACh1iXAkMEAQYAiABEgJT7_D_BwE

Smaller speakers sell better. Larger woofers = large speaker, and no one wants those in their living rooms anymore. You can still get reasonably good bass by having multiple lower diameter drivers, like a bunch of 5"s or a bunch of 6"s.

This one is dumbest I’ve seen instead of triple woofers it’s only got one .. and two faux drivers or radiators .. id never buy these polks

So I’ll never get a speaker as cheap as pioneers . pioneer sp-fs52 discontinued ...
that are as good wish ida kept my original pair I returned .... maybe they weren’t good enough speakers to keep making ? Or something
Makes me dislike pioneer audio
Oh ugly too

Rtr are good but ugly

There are lots of reasons why you don't see the Big Advents of yore. Part of it, as James pointed out, is that they're.....big. In addition, advancements in the theory of bass reflex tuning (thanks to Thiele and Small) allow smaller woofers (particularly 6.5" drivers) to go as low or lower than the big sealed or poorly executed ported boxes did back in the '60's into the '80's. The smaller drivers are also better than they used to be. Also, and more recently, designers are placing much more emphasis on smooth off axis response than was the case when Henry Kloss was mating a 10" woofer with a tweeter in a 2-way. That generally means using smaller woofers with better dispersion (along with wave guides for the tweeters in some instances). Finally, subwoofers are becoming more and more the norm, so there is much less need for a full range main speaker with a big hog woofer.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that just doubling or tripling up on smaller woofers doesn't give you deeper bass. The F3 will be the same as if you used one of the woofers. What that does give you is greater sensitivity and lower distortion for a given output level. That's particularly important in HT, and the lack of deep bass can be fixed with a sub(s).

These don’t look audiophile quality but big woofers Cerwin-Vega XLS-12 12" 3-Way Home Audio Floor Tower Speaker https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002JGTO5K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_jsmdGbKXXVDNX
Only pro audio speakers still use big woofers
And they do not go low like a subwoofer anyways ...
So big drivers are obsolete? For tower speakers which are like big tall bookshelves these days.
