I am looking to get some suggestions on what to install for my new media room sized at 12x23. I have 2 Denon's in my gym with 4x a2.4 Chane speakers which sound great for music in the gym, but I have little to no idea what to put in this media room. The family does not watch movies every night, but now and then we like to watch something good and a great sound would make the room perfect. I would like to stay with Denon only because I have Heos running with 1 receiver for the pool area and another for the gym, so, I can merge zones when I feel like it.

I am guessing a need a 5:1:? or a 7:1:? (again, no clue).

Budget is below 5k would be nice.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks! Sorry, will clarify.

1) Looking for receiver (preferably Denon (see above)).
2) Speakers
3) Subwoofer(s) (Don't know if I need 2 guessing 1 will be enough)
4) Will only be used for TV and movies. I have in ceiling speakers running throughout the house for music(that one will run off a Denon too so, another reason why a Denon in this new media room will work out nicely if eligible) . 5) Don't need the sound to knock us off the couch, just want a good crisp quality sound.
6) TV outside of budget is fine. Dont know if I need 8k unless you guys suggest it (no clue when 8k is going to be mainstream)

PS: I'm on a 1gb DSL connection so speeds are fast. I can always double that to 2GB if needed by having another line installed (if any of this matters).

tnx!

Receiver and Sub recommendations stay the same. I will list a few speaker systems

It's not a big room so you don't need a powerful receiver. I would be looking at AVRs in the $1k range. Denon is fine as is Yamaha and Marantz. If you are interested in multi-zone audio going from the receiver, that will hike the price of the receiver, of course. As for speakers and subs, the above mentioned SVS and Paradigm are solid choices. For speakers, I would also look at KEF, Revel, JBL, Outlaw Audio, Monoprice Monolith THX, and Monitor Audio. For subs, I would look at Hsu Research, Outlaw Audio, Monoprice Monolith THX, and Paradigm Defiance.

I own a number of Paradigm speakers. I can attest that they would be a great choice. Personally I have the following all Paradigm

800F Front pair Premier
45C Center Prestige
Mini Monitor V5 surround pair (older model)
ADP-190 v5 rear surround pair (to be replaced with a pair of 25S Prestige)
Defiance X12 subwoofer.

Trust me, room rumble and good audio replication is wonderful with this setup.

In another room I have the following on my computer

Martin Logan LX-16 bookshelf speakers
SVS SB-3000 subwoofer.

SVS has a subwoofer matching tool for a number of different speakers. Use that tool. They also have great customer service. My Defiance X12 IMHO would be a kissing cousin of the SVS PB-4000 in capability. Both would give great rumble and room pressurization on the bass side! To add the Defiance X series subwoofers are ported, and the Defiance X12 and X15 are well reviewed here.

Thanks a lot. Really appreciate it. I will look at each of those and grab a package.

I am guessing in-wall front, front-left & right are out of the question huh?

In walls can work great if you have the right budget so if you're looking to increase that budget maybe double in walls could work
