I wanted to replace my Marantz CC4001 five disc changer with Onkyo's beautiful six-disc changer (with that awesome green light on the door) because it's been quirky since day one but never got around to it. Love that company's stuff, and it's a shame they're pretty much out of business at this point.
I had Onkyo's C390 my Son has it now it's about umm 8 years old he still uses it but not as much anymore. Streams mostly now as I do mostly now. As I got older I find myself streaming more than ever now.

What cheap version of the LP120 -- do you mean the LP60? If so, that wasn't really a cheap version of the 120...
No this one I wish I could find it. Not many pics online sadly:
Clearer pics. Mine was mint:

I just connected my 45 year old Sony PS-4750/Shure V15V-MR to a new Schitt Mani Phono Preamplifier. Using it now to listen to Classic Hauser, making comparisons and contrasts of the LP to that album in CD, 24/96 FLAC download, and 256k AAC Apple Music download. The LP so far is delivering a more in focus sound; but, snap, crackle, and pop is discouraging. I suspect the FLAC download is what I might go to for this music selection; yet, it's the least convenient to access, about 16 laptop and Universal Player actions to cue it up.

Oh, yeah, well, there are a hundred of these Hanpin knockoffs that copy the SL1200 design...this is far from the only one.

As for that Stanton slip mat that's on that table -- I actually used two of those when I was a mobile DJ years ago, one on each of my 1200s!

Classic Hauser, an exploration of what medium sounds best

As earlier posted, this weekend I purchased Classic Hauser on LP, CD, 24/96 Download, and Apple Music download. Playing these, nine ways to Sunday, actually 10, I had hoped to conclude my experimentation with some conclusions about what medium sounded best. Here’s the best I could discern from the following listening means and methods.OIP[1].jpg

  • LP>Technics SL-1210GR/Shure V15V (SAS)>Sony TA-E9000ES Pre-Pro Phono Preamplifier input
  • 24/96 FLAC Download>Foobar2000>OPPO-205 DAC up sampling to 24/192>Sony TA-E9000ES analog input
  • 24/96 FLAC Download>Foobar2000>Creative Sound Blaster X-FI HD (for usb to S/PDIF conversion at 24/96)>TA-E9000ES optical S/PDIF input
  • Apple Music Download>iTunes>Airport Express (wi-fi to S/PDIF 16/44.1 output)>Sony TA-E9000ES optical S/PDIF input
  • Apple Music Download>iTunes>OPPO-205 DAC up sampling to 24/192>Sony TA-E9000ES analog input
  • 24/96 FLAC Download>Thumb Drive>OPPO-205 DAC up sampling to 24/192>Sony TA-E9000ES analog input
  • 24/96 FLAC Download>Network connection to OPPO-205 DAC up sampling to 24/192>Sony TA-E9000ES analog input
  • CD>OPPO-205>Sony TA-E9000ES analog input
  • CD>Rip to iTunes in ALAC>OPPO-205 DAC up sampling to 24/192>Sony TA-E9000ES analog input
  • CD>Rip to iTunes in ALAC>Airport Express (wi-fi to S/PDIF 16/44.1 output) Sony TA-E9000ES analog input
Conclusion: all processes yielded a satisfying listening experience, whereby tone, sound stage, and detail seemed so similar as to preclude any revelation to what process delivered the most compelling sound; however, three things did stand out: first, the presence of pops distracted LP pleasure, second, play of downloads via OPPO usb DAC, or Network connection is inconvenient, and finally, the iTunes play of the Apple Music AAC download via Airport Express to the Sony TA-E9000ES was most convenient, and sounded on par with the CD direct, ALAC and FLAC media. One more thing, if the LP was free of pops I would have declared it the winner here for one thing that set it apart from other means to the music, a sound stage which seemed to be more in focus. At any rate, the exercise was a fun activity on a cold and dreary weekend which has kept me indoors.

This is a very funny transparent record I have. This one is new and from a new artist. I like Santigold very much, but this is not exclusively vinyl. I have all her stuff in digital. I bought this record because it is bass heavier pop. It's the most recent production and in my mind done very well. I bought this to see how clean and "meaty" my then new cart can sound. I love it. But it's better in digital.

Just purchased "Classic Hauser" on vinyl from Barnes & Noble, a 2 disc album. I'm bringing attention to it here since it's the best sounding LP I've purchased in the last 50 years, maybe all time. It does have a few, very few, pops; yet, the in focus tone and dimensionality of the recording presents the Master Celloist's performance of major classics more marvelously than ever previously heard.View attachment 42316
Is that my paysan Hauser?

The Celloist.
Yes, the cellist. Is he the wanker from 2cellos? This guy, doing Michael Jackson and AC/DC on cello:

I was simply surprised that there would be two cellists named Hauser. That's why I asked is he my paysan, I meant from Croatia.
