Went out and finally bought a meter.so I went to set each channel since my main volume controls the pink noise I selected left front speaker changed the setting to 0db then raised the volume of the pink noise to 75db is this correct? Then changed all the speaker levels. I set the meter to C setting and to slow but the numbers still move from 73 to 75 to 76. Is that normal for a digital meter?

It's normal for the SPL to fluctuate a bit when using a pink noise.

If you are setting all channels to hover around 75dB (that is an arbitrary number for this exercise, by the way) for the same point on the gain dial, then you are level matching your speakers correctly.

Did this differ a lot from the way the auto setup routine set them?

I can’t remember because I was setting the level with my iPhone and it was different. When I use the auto setup it Always says errors with some speaker hookups but they are hooked up right. Do the test again then it’s different speakers hooked up wrong. I was told it’s because my room is so big that any type of echo will give it this error. It also constantly sets my front speakers to large

Phase errors with some can easily be ignored if you indeed have that setup correctly. Setting speakers to large is more about the avr manufacturer's choice (than Audyssey's for example) and usually just means an f3 of 40hz was detected (but I'd also like the avr to just work with bass management rather than force its suggestions).

So should I have the fronts set to large? I always have them on small. And I changed all the crossovers to 80Hz. Now this is the THX standard if I’m right but should 80 be the norm for Atmos? I do have 13 speakers running

I prefer to have all speakers set to small and let my subs handle the lower end and I generally use crossovers more in the 100hz range even with capable towers (and my avr generally suggests large for my L/R towers). Really wished it was simply bass management on or off. 80hz is a THX spec but then there's preference and particular setup response.
