Denon 3600h to Emotiva Xpa5

Hi All,
I just purchased the 3600h and am in the process of hooking everything up. As I read into this ave, it looks like I can run the front l/r using external amo ( in this case Emotiva) and switch of the onboard amos.
But based on what I read, the typical set up has atmos and hence easy to amp assign.
In my case, my set up equates to a 7.2 configuration and no atmos.

In my mind the straight forward set up is to let the Emotiva drive the 5 channels and the Denon drive the rear back and the 2 subs.

Question is for my set up, will I be able to amp assign the l/r and turn off the Denon onboard amps? Thoughts on

(1) is this possible with a 7.2 configuration?

(2) if it's possible, then how would I go about configuration of the Denon including the hook up?

TIA.

Don't believe that model will turn off the on-board amps when some of the onboard amps are in use. Not that that's critical anyways....

Using an external amp on the surrounds may be overkill but if you already have the 5ch amp, may as well use it.

1) yes
2) In the amp assign menu, select the following: Note that's for the X4400H, the 3600's should be similar enough that you can figure it out.

Assign Mode: 11.1
Floor
- Layout 5ch & SB

Height
-Height Sp 4ch

-Pre-out Front

After that's done, you can go to the speaker menu and only select the speakers you need for you 7.1 configuration.

The 2020 models such as the 3700 and 4700 will be different, but can still be done.

Below is a screenshot for the 2017 models:

So much for my memory :) Was it the rest of the Denons aside from the 8500 I'm thinking of?

Yes, that's for 3000 and 4000 series, 2016 through 2018/9 models. The 2020 models will be slightly different but still doable. They are different because they have the pre-amp mode.

The 8500's different too, because it has the option to disconnect any channels.
The X6400H/X6500 has 11 channel amps so I am not sure if the same can be done.

Yeah I think I only have turn them all off option on my 4520 for the pre-out mode.....too bad they don't all have that 8500 option of individual channel choices....not that I've ever had an issue using the pre-outs combined with internal amps anyways....

According to ASR, the SINAD of the pre outs really don't degrade until the output exceeds about 1.4 V. So for most users, disconnecting the power amps, pre-amp mode, or do nothing won't make any different in terms of the resulting "sound quality". It won't save any meaningful energy either because even the full preamp mode doesn't disconnect the power supply to the amps, it only disconnect the signal line.
