HTP-1 vs AVM 70 vs 8805

Well, these are approx prices:
LRC: 1800-2200 each
surrounds: 600-800 each
Atmos: 500-700 each
Sub: 2500-3000 for the solution(this may need adjustment)

But the kicker is I want all surrounds and atmos in-wall/ceiling

I plan on doing fronts behind screen. I can live with having the subs visible though I would like to have them not seen.
Remember my goal is 7.2.4
This is a Theater Room 1st and foremost not a music room.

I know there are a lot of threads already but, most of them are out dated and there have been firmware updates etc.. since.
Is there another I should really consider?
Should I even be considering the Marantz 8805 or should I be looking at the 7706?

My planned set up is 7.2.4 dedicated theater room. 4k Projector.
I will be using Ultra BR player, Spectrum, Netflix, Disney+, HTPC running Plex, Spotify...We have both android and I users in house(but I am android so its weighted lol)

Which, sonically, is the best? Which is, once setup, the easiest to use? Do any of them have a huge issue?

Eric
All depends. HTP-1 has been out now for a year. Probably will be the most stable of them all right now. since it has had time to get tested and have software updates and what not. Anthem would be nice, but you'll be the early adaptor if you do. Same with Marantz. All will be good. Personally I would take the HTP-1. It was built by ATI.

Have you narrowed down your list of speakers?

Not really but I have some time. I have one shop pointing me at Dynaudio, another at Paradigm and from here was mentioned Triad.

Are you ruling out B&W's? Check out RBH. They make some really nice In-walls. And the prices aren't bad either.

Skip the processors .. go with either:
1-Denon X3700-Either use it in full preamp mode using none of its internal amps, or get external amps that can be fully driven with around 1.5v and use the internal amps for surrounds and/or atmos.
2-Get a Denon X8500 (can upgrade the HDMI board next year from Denon if you need 8k). Get a 3 or 5 channel amp of your choice and use the internal amps for the rest Of your channels.
The two above options will functionally be the same as the Marantz 8805/7706 and will measure better and cost much less. I currently have the x8500 and really enjoy it.

200% agreed, but if he needs XLR for some reasons then he has to go with AVPs, or Yamaha's AVCs if 11 channel is enough for him.

Very true. But unless he has long cable runs or issues with ground loops, it shouldn’t be necessary should it? My biased vote would be an open box, full 3 year manufacturer warranty x8500..
But the x3700 is a pretty amazing value.

By the way, surely you feel good about even the recently tested $12,500 AV processor/preamp could not push your Denon off the top spot:), and you paid less than 3K iirc., lucky you..

This dudes budgets is around $80k. At least that's what he stated in a previous thread he started. I'm not sure he wants to go with an AVR. It looks like he wants separates.

I agree.

Wow. I want to spend $80K. Definitely won't be on any X3700 or X8500 or any AVR. :D

At this price point (and many points below $80K), somehow I don't think "Need" is part of the equation. :D

We are in the "I WANT IT DAMMIT" category. :D

Ahh... at that budget, I would go with one that would include installation/setup and not mess with an AVR either :)

If I had 80k to spend, I would get the x8500h or A110 and spend the rest on speakers, amps, dacs and source media. I won't pay more for less, just my principle. If there is an avp that tops the chart then I would go for it.

The Trinnov 16/32 would top the chart. Don't see it on the list. But would easily top the chart.

Has it been bench tested somewhere?
Not sure. Personally, I don't use all those bench mark sites to make my decisions. They are not the be all end all for things. When a product like Trinnov is being used in major companies and used to help design surround sound formats, I have to think it's a pretty great product and very high quality. The price might be too high for 90% of the population, but I guess that's what you pay for when investing in quality high end products and top tier customer service.

No worries... that particular chart is referring to bench test results regarding noise/distortion (SINAD) so I thought maybe the Trinnov had been tested somewhere. When price gets taken out of the equation, the use of custom installers etc certainly is an option. If I weren't concerned about price, having someone else install it/set it up would certainly be a huge positive. Many of these processors etc are quite complex beasts. Let's bump the 90% number up to 99%+ though :)

Haha, yeah you're probably right. 99% is more realistic. I'm looking at getting one for my next theater build, but ATI will be releasing their 16 channel processor next year early first qtr. and I might be interested in that. ATI bought DataSat and will incorporating a lot of that technology into their new processor. The great part of it is that it will be a sub $8k 16 channel processor. Way more affordable than say Trinnov or Storm Audio. DataSats were well over $20k for their 16-channel. So to get that technology in a sub $8k, will be a great deal.

It's not "all those benchmark sites".

It is just ONE site. A single site. :D

Back in the day, we could say, Stereo Review, Home Theater Magazine, Sound & Vision, Stereophile, Soundstage, AH, etc. confirmed the numbers - multiple 3rd party independent publications.

Today we have ONE.

And as you say, it's not the end-to-all since 100% of these numbers are 100% INAUDIBLE anyway. So it's not like any of these numbers are proven to show better Sound Quality, Reliability, Compatibility, or anything else.

One guy doing his measurements and people treat it like it's the end-to-all decision making. It's funny. :D

Back when we had multiple 3rd party measurements, I don't ever recall seeing this kind of almost cult-like treatment. So I guess we can thank S&V, Stereophile, Soundstage, and AH for no longer doing measurements. :D
