ENYA, I picked up this CD back in 2005, I had just moved into a apartment that I didn't get much time to spend in cause I was working the Gulf of Mexico right after The Katrina Rita hurricanes had hit. Nothing was coming in from the Production platforms from the blocks. Anyways this CD became one of my go to music CDs. I'd stay out in the fields for 30 + days at a time Production platforms were down, some where Totaled out some where lost completely. I mean they went to the bottom of the Gulf. When I would get home this would be my go to CD and sleep for day's after pulling 16 hour days 20 to 30+ days out in the Gulf of Mexico so people could have fuel for their homes and Vehicles. 15 year old CD still sounds as good as the day I got it.

Fun fact. She is apparently one of the top selling artists ever and doesn't tour.

I have a good friend that worked on a rig and I don't know that I could have done that job. Crazy.

Didn't know she never toured thanks for that bit of info. Yep it's not a line of work for most
You almost gotta be married to that line of work. 9 months or more living on the water
I was lucky to be on land 5 day's a month.
Now the money was awesome, you get feed very well. There is a Lot of Traveling by car, Crew boat and a lot of flying mostly Helicopter, some not much by Jet. If you where overseas yeah Jet a lot also. From the Moment you land it's balls to the walls up at 4:30 am every day and no less than 14 hours a day. Thing is you sleep in Living quarters you share bathrooms mostly two showers between anywhere's 30 + men so your lucky to hit your bunkbed by midnight. Now there are Production platforms that are Huge. Shell Oil, Exxon mobile, Chevron Texaco and so on all have very huge platforms out in the Gulf. If you get a chance google Shells deep water Production platform Perdido or the Auger. There are women that work out in the Gulf mostly cooks and Galley hands B and R hands. Some Company women. What's it like to stay out for 14 + days out there? Think getting locked up in jail you just get feed much better and when you do fly in your bank account is very fat. Thing is you don't have much time to spend your earnings. You have maybe 7 days home at most each month thing about that your Traveling one day to come in and one day to go back out so now you down to just 5 days off out of those 5 days in your sleeping no less than two days to catch up rest. So 3 days to yourself, If your lucky you don't get a call to turn around while your headed home to fly back out which happened a lot to me. I didn't have time for anything, most years I lived out of Hotels when I'd get in made better sense with just a few day's on land a month. Spent a lot of money on Escort ladies, think rent-a-woman. :D you would be Surprised how many very nice looking women and I mean young to old ages from 18 to 60 that are Escort women in that line of work. Umm yeah call girls also, they work the clubs and Gambling casinos. If I hadn't blew out my left knee I more than likely would still be in that line of work. Loved the money made, and of course the hot lady's.

PS, one last thing, yeah you had to deal with Death. I lost two friends to that line of work. Very bad things happen at a moments notice. I alone have had two Near death miss. I got up one morning we where in our morning safety meeting and the Galley hand couldn't wake up one of the Riggers yep he was dead, Died in his sleep.
Found out drug overdose killed him.

Almost all of my extended family lives in and around Houma, and most are connected to the oil field industry in some manner. I've heard many tales of legendary parties down in the fish camps around Cocodrie when the Oil Execs would roll into town.

Oh but you are right my friend, down in swamp towns which as you know anything below I10 in Louisiana is Pretty much swamp land. Down HWY 1 in Louisiana there are little towns, Lockport, Galliano, Grand Isle and so on. You know them Golf tournaments thats those I&E and Contractor companies put on? Well like you stated when them Company executives from say umm Shell Oil or Exxon Mobil and so on, well those I&E companies would front All of the expense they would fly in a few Escort ladies for the Company executives of course. pay them each 5k to Cozy up to the executives if you know what I mean. For the hands those Legendary Parties your talking about, yeah them Lingerie Show's where more than just shows. Those where call girls and Escort ladies being used to out on those shows. But yeah that's the real oilfield your talking about that No one talks about. Those so called Contracts where Bought and paid for long before the Actual Contract bidding took place. Thats all done the Actual contract bidding is just for show to keep MMS aka Federal government off their a$$. In the Real oilfield they pay under the table, kick backs happen all the time. Think of it like what them Politicians do to get in office. All those millions Donated to their campaigns they gonna want something in return in the end.
