I just got a good deal on Svs sb 3000 subwoofer .I have the Martin Logan motion 40 speakers and i dont like how it sound.I like my speakers a little bright. Is it necessary to add the subs even if i dont like how the front speakers sounds?I know it wont make my speakers bright but for music and movie sake, is it neccesary to add subwoofer.I am just a beginner and on the learning curve when it comes to audio. All answers will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Only you can really say if you want a sub or not. It's not required, altho with speakers like the ML 40s I would want a sub since those speakers only have an f3 of 40hz and I like deep bass. The sub doesn't "match" the speakers so you can change speakers if you don't like the ML 40s and still use the sub.

My suggestion - turn the sub off and see if you like it better. If you do then leave it that way. My guess is for lots of music you won't miss the sub all that much but for action movies and music that designed with lots of bass you may want to turn it back on?

It's your system, there are no hard and fast rules. Just make yourself happy!

No, he's saying that there is no such thing as "matching" your speakers to a sub. Your sub will be fine with those speakers or any other speakers for that matter.

Just saying there is no "matching" needed between sub and speaker, it's more about how you integrate the sub with the speakers, not the particular sub.
