I can see your point, but seems to me the better way to handle this was to not shoot him....they know who he is, he's not going far
Ooooh.... He's just any random stranger in a car away from tazing and jacking someones ride.

And no it still doesn't give them the right to burn down the Wendy's at all. That exscuse is just a dog that will not hunt anymore. I'm really getting tired of hearing that. There is no exscuse for that
Remember that the employee that called the cops on him was.... wait for it.... African-American. Let that sink in. This wasn't a 'Karen'.

Not to mention the fact that the mobs and protests are just super spreaders for COVID which ironically affects black men more proportionally and severely then other races
Then there is the duplicity of shaming people for other types of assembly because of Covid, but you want to get together en-masse to protest, and some how that's ok?

A tazer isn't a deadly weapon so shooting the dude in the back seems off regardless of protocol.
Rules of Engagement and Force Escalation Policy in many departments give officers the leeway to answer imminent harm of themselves or the public at large with lethal force. It's doctrine for U.S. law enforcement.

If you have a rational conversation with someone for 40 minutes, and it's rational because they are thinking they aren't getting cuffed, but when the cuffs come out it's like a switch gets flipped, what do you think they are going to do to you or me, especially when they have a taser and I have a car and they want only to escape?

What's the picture for? Is that the policy of this particular police force? The officer's opinion can't be questioned/challenged? I don't know then why their chief didn't think it was justified and fired the officer. The results speak for themselves to a large extent.
What do you think the picture is for? What do you see in the picture? The firing is political.

Look, I have zero love for cops. Watching the footage he represented a clear and present danger in fighting the cops, taking a tactical weapon from them, and attempting to use it on cop's. Cause I know I'm a parking lot over in my car that if cops aren't an issue for him I'm certainly less of one.

Anyone Watch the news about NY Disbanding Plainclothes police units. 600 or more? Thoughts on that?
I don't think there should be plainclothes and I don't think there should be unmarked cars either in standard trafficking patrols. If a cop asks me if I've something to hide because I don't consent to search or seizure then cop's can very well live by that same rule.

It's a poor picture and that's why I asked what it was supposed to illustrate.
Jesus. What do you think the red circle is? Here's the video. Put the pieces together.

Its pasted time is just before the still I took and highlighted. If you need additional help zero on on ~3:57-58. Sorry, I'm frustrated. If you are going to argue this at least take the time to inform yourself.

The still by itself I recognized as a scene from the parking lot but by itself it doesn't show much. You think I didn't see the flash of the tazer in the video earlier or something? What do you think I'm not informed about is the better question I suppose....

Just so everyone knows: I don't care for current policing in the U.S. as a whole. From the militarization (boys with lethal toys that want about any excuse to be let off the hook with them) to state sanctioned robbery that is Civil Asset Forfeiture and Eminent Domain, to the 'War on Drugs' (it's a medical problem IMO) with it's disproportionate effect on minorities.

But this single instance isn't any of that. Rayshard was the author of his own demise. Anyone that would fight cops like that would have no compunction when it comes to the average citizen.

Also sauce that is good on goose is also good on gander: Left leaning media is out there posting the discipline records of the police in this altercation. I think it only fair they publish Rayshards.

Based on your responses, I believe you to be illinformed about how force escalation works. It's either that or you have zero problem with someone fighting cops and having zero compunction to use a tactical weapon on them. Because believe you me if he would have had their service pistol it would have been the O.K. coral.

Ok people:

A tazer incapacitates a person. You can not have an officer incapacitated. I've been pepper sprayed, maced, and tazered. When I got hammered with that I was prone for 7 full seconds seized up. What happens in the real world if I'm a cop, someone gets my tazer and uses it on me? The potential is they go for my service pistol next.

I'm here to tell you this: That can not happen. At all, in any police force in the U.S.

No am no expert in force escalation at all, never said I was. I'm just going by what the police chief's reactions to the video as to what consituted sufficient deadly force to fire a gun at the fleeing perp. If it had been the service pistol that he was able to take off the officer then my understanding is the police chief would have blessed the shooting by the other officer without question....I could also perhaps understand a bit more if it was a single officer involved without backup but that wasn't the situation. I'd also be worried about innocent bystanders in this situation as far as a gun vs taser being used.

ps are you an actively serving police officer?

They didn't shoot a fleeing perp! They shot someone that discharged a tactical weapon directly at them. I'm back to my opinion that you aren't thinking this through.
Also the firing is 100% political and an ass covering measure.

BTW, this is from CNN and an African-American Sheriff in GA that teaches RoE and Force Escalation:

Cop's are trained to use guns. If you watch the video he backstopped his shots with the police cruiser and hit Rayshard at a full run. Very controlled and cool cookie.

Also watch the video. Tell us when you see the officers right hand go to his gun.

Then there are these gems and I'm afraid it's representative of many of the protesters on this:

Well he still is a fleeing perp either way. As I said, just going by what I'd seen/read of the police chief's reaction that the shooting wasn't justified. I don't know what the official policy of Atlanta PD is either (at least I think this was Atlanta PD). Just sharing my reaction with what others have seen/heard similarly. I know the officer who was fired also recently added 9 hours of instruction on de-escalation of situations. I'll check out the video, thanks. Personally I don't have a problem with it up until the time they started to handcuff him....it is very weird after that, mostly on the perp's reaction but I've never DWB either. I think I'll dive into this with my retired police pal again, too.

Yes and too many cops have been shooting black guys for no obvious reason, too. They aren't all that well trained in this IMO let alone how often they actually need to be armed.
