Having issues with surround sound and can’t find helpful info

The coax cable is obsolete. I was trying to get something else working on it. So the setup i have is the Samsung TV that is hooked up to WiFi with our cable providers (Spectrum) app to watch wirelessly. I just did a reset on the TV, and a firmware update on the receiver... I’ve got the receiver switched to surround sound, and still no volume through surround sound speakers. ANYNET+ is activated on the TV. I think my issue is the connection, bc it’s now saying there’s nothing connected through the HDMI 2 (arc) port, even though it is.

Patience. We can figure this out. Your descriptions just need some fine tuning and some questions answered.

What is the make/model of these hdmi/rca converters?

When you use your phone how is it connected to the avr?

When you say it won't go into Dolby Surround, how are you determining that? On my Denon I need to press one of the Denon's remote sound mode button (for say movies or music) for several seconds to get the list of available sound modes....how does it work on your model? What are the available sound modes you do see?

When you say surround speakers aren't working are you speaking of all 5.1 speakers or literally just the surrounds? (which are the two speakers other than the left/center/right speakers)

Sounds like he is talking about all of the speakers and only the TV speakers are working. I see the Denon is ethernet connected. So, are you using airplay to get sound from your phone to the Denon?

The receiver won’t even go into Dolby surround.

That's because the receiver isn't receiving a Dolby Digital signal from your TV. That's why I said you should check your TV's audio menu settings.

I purchased 2 Component to HDMI adapters (one for the back side of the receiver and one coming out of the wall, going to the tv).

Does this mean that the TV and Denon are in two different locations, as in different rooms?

The converters are made by a company called HDE, and they are YPbPr+L/R audio to HDMI. I ordered off amazon.

My phone is connected via Bluetooth, in which I’m able to link my Spotify to, and all speakers and sub work perfectly.

I was able to figure out how to get it into surround sound mode. It’s the same way as you explained.

None of the 5.1 speakers are working.

Excuse the mess as I’m currently remodeling the house but here’s what I’m working with. You can see the 3 speakers in the wall behind the TV. There are 2 speakers in the ceiling on each side of the fan. The receiver is in the little closet under the stairs.

No problem, it can be complex unless you've dealt with a lot of this stuff for a while . Your phone is connected to the avr directly, and it seems your tv is not getting audio to the avr. Did you enable ARC, as mentioned before, in both the tv and avr, though? I somewhat suspect those converters screw it up....off to see if I can get some info on what they can/can't do....got a link to a manual by chance?

I don’t have any manuals or anything. This was all left by the previous homeowner. Instead of leaving everything hooked up how it was, they disconnected everything and put it in a box for me to figure out

His TV has no analog audio outputs, so he can’t just unplug the analog audio cables and use them out of the TV and into an analog input in the Denon. So, if ARC is a no go with the converters, he’ll need to run an HDMI cable through the wall to the Denon for ARC or run an optical cable from the TV to the Denon.

I meant a manual for the hdmi/rca converter device, or a model number, don't see anything particular on Amazon with a brief look. Make/model and the internet usually make manual finding for us work well enough. I suspect that using the two like this to de-tangle hdmi into component and stereo audio and then back to hdmi is the issue...

No worries, he mentioned turning it on in the tv but I didn’t think he had done it in the Denon. I also could not find any info on the converters.

I missed that part about enabling it in the tv (or settings in the tv generally, but the info is scattered). I just suspect the converters aren't intended to be used this way and was hoping a manual may help clarify one way or the other.

Is there a specific way to enable HDMI control on the Denon?
