Problem with Yamaha RX V683

Hello:
Well, let me explain what's happening to me. I have a Yamaha RX-V683 A / V receiver, Model 5.2.2. I have it configured with the speakers in "Basic" mode, which means 7 Channels, without bi-amplification and without extra speakers for zone 2. In the configuration screen, you can see 5 front channels of which there are two framed in green that is supposed to be the speakers Presence beside 2 surrounds. The two back surrounds are framed in red. I don't have surround back speakers. So far everything's good.

The problem arises when I choose the option of "7ch stereo". The display only lights up the symbols of the 3 front speakers (LCR), the 2 surround speakers and the subwoofer, but the two presence ones don't appear lit. When I select this option "7ch stereo" the Cinema DSP symbol lights up on the display. The manual says about cinema DSP 3D mode:

Button DSP 3D. Turns cinema DSP 3D on / off.
"If this function is set to" ON ", Cinema DSP 3D works with selected sound programs (except 2ch stereo and 7ch stereo)"

The thing is that, no matter what I do, with the option "Cinema DSP" enabled or not, when I select 7ch stereo, the 2 presence speakers don't sound and the cinema DSP logo appears illuminated. I honestly don't get it. I think I have tried everything but the only way to get sound from the presence speakers is by activating other DSP modes such as "Music video" "Surround" etc ... but obviously they are emulations that don't sound the same as if the 7 speakers were sounding in stereo. Dolby Atmos sound good, no problem with it.

In my old Onkyo receiver, there was an option called "All Ch stereo" and it did just that, it gave stereo sound through all available speakers (in that case it was 5.1 sound ...)

So ... Any suggestion? I hope that someone else on the forum who has a similar Yamaha receiver can help me. Excuse my English, please. It isn't my mother language

Solution found. I answer myself in case someone has this problem it can be solved. You have to enter the DSP menu of the receiver and go to the option 7Ch stereo. Once there, with the up arrow key of the remote control, a menu is displayed that allows configuring the mode, in this case, the 7ch menu, enter the "height balance" option and select a figure greater than zero (0-10). At zero the presence speakers will not sound.

Very good! According to the manual for your model, the default setting is 5 for presence speaker volume. It must have been adjusted to zero at some point. Information for 7 channel stereo mode and other DSP programs are on page 101 of your manual. Enjoy!

All channel stereo modes are not surround modes (such as 7.1 or 5.1), it's just the L/R info played thru each pair of speakers and summed for the center. Personally am always surprised when people want to use this mode for regular listening.

No, they are not surround modes, but some folks like using all channel stereo mode. Some people like Van Halen with Roth, others with Hagar. Some people like an automatic transmission in their 911. Somebody should call 911 on those people.

Just sort of defeats the purpose is all....some people with old 2ch systems like to have duplicate speakers, too and that also mystifies me. No accounting for taste, tho.

Well, different strokes. I’m sure there is an ol’ fella’ out there wondering what the big fuss over 2 channel stereo is all about since he still rocks his grandfather’s Edison Cylinder Phonograph. It’s cherried out with an XL Morning Glory Megaphone. He still bops around the parlor to Billy Murray’s “On the Party Line.” Ragtime is the bee’s knees! Actually, I bop around to that song, too. But, I stream it from Tidal. “On the party line... everything is cheerful...On the party line... you can hear an earful...” It’s the cat’s meow I tell you!
