Good piece of info.
I've seen that one before. That's what makes me lean on upgrading my single sub, even though this SVS pb
1000 is better than any of my Velodynes! It plays at the lowest levels w/out going into standby...

What Velodynes?

I am sure I've had it that loud, but I've never measured it.

I just lost my card for longer with that statement didn't I..? :p

I don't even own a proper SPL meter!
If you keep going, you're never getting that card back. First 100 dB is frightening, and now you don't even own an SPL meter. SMH

Since it seems as though you've got no issues with your loudness levels, I think external amplification would be a waste of money for you.
I agree. I'm probably just going to upgrade my sub.
I know that it will push 115db. I'm the kind of guy who is always trying to upgrade. I think in a few years I'll switch to separates with a projector...

One post caught my attention earlier I wanted to address also...

120 dB literally is the threshold of pain. To my understanding 85 dB average with room for 20 dB peaks (short bursts of 105 dB) is the thx reference standard. Play with that calculator I linked above to see just how much power it takes to hit 120 dB with your average (88-89 dB) sensitivity speaker. Even for short bursts 120 dB is getting into permanent damage territory.
My towers have a sincabililty of 120db...
Or the 4000 series. That's a huge space, larger than mine and I have a pair of ported 15" subs.
I listen to music half the time and 4k UHD movies half the time, should I upgrade to a sealed sub or a ported?

I have a few but no 1080. :)

Den 5.1 = 2060
Living Room 3.2 = 770
Bedroom 2.1 = 681
I like the Denon's programming system better. I believe it has more detailed option settings, but I found that the Yamaha sounds better once you've dialed it in...

Yup...

"Loft" and "PB1000" sound mutually exclusive to me. :p Since the Sub will see the whole open room volume, that is one of the more important considerations: matching Woofage to the space.
That's exactly what I need to know! If I got a second sub, it would be in the center of my loft! How do you manage both subs when one is in the corner and one would be w/out walls. Theres a 3' wall behind the second sub with a short cabinet on the left.

Also, if your main speakers are getting to a volume that you're happy with there is not much reason to get an external amp other than putting less stress on your receiver.
Yeah, it does sound clear no matter the db's...
