IMO, absolutely.
The 2000 pro series is a much better subwoofer. Don’t read that as an insult, it’s just how it it is. I would definitely do an upgrade before buying an amp.
I appreciate your information! What's your opinion on the Aventage A-1080?

Also, if your main speakers are getting to a volume that you're happy with there is not much reason to get an external amp other than putting less stress on your receiver.
Yeah, my towers are set to small so the six' woofers are turned off.
Would a power amplifier increase the clarity at high db?

Personally I don’t like dealing with and setting up Yamahas but they can definitely be a great choice once you get to the playback part lol. FWIW, I think the 2080 is better.

Did I read that you have 4 IC speakers AND height speakers? I would love to hear an explanation of that.

I have a choice to run my heights or my background speakers. The heights are above my towers.

Setting your speakers to small does not turn off the woofers. It enables bass management for the speakers under a certain cutoff frequency.

How loud do you listen? Do you feel like things are unclear at louder levels? Your speakers have a decent sensitivity rating, I highly doubt you need more power for them.

From his previous posts it appears he already owns the 1080.

I meant to acknowledge that. I think I deleted a post doing so. Also mentioned @snakeeyes had one. I think.....
Anyway, I think the 2080 is better but he already has a 1080 so...

I've been up to 100db and it was as clear as a diamond!

I'd put the money toward better subwoofage. The space you're dealing with is quite large for PB-1000's. I'd contact SVS and see if you could upgrade your existing PB-1000 to something in the 2000 series.
Or the 4000 series. That's a huge space, larger than mine and I have a pair of ported 15" subs.

Then I would say you have plenty of amplification. 100 dB is painfully loud. If you really mean 100 dB that is... did you measure that or is that the setting on your dial?

I'd been waiting for you to chime in here, since he's got a similarly large space to yours.

Nah, it's not painfully loud.

Since it seems as though you've got no issues with your loudness levels, I think external amplification would be a waste of money for you.
100% agree. Put the entire budget into subwoofers. That will give you a far more noticeable improvement in sound quality. Even for 2 ch music that doesn't necessarily have a ton of bass. The right size subs will feel more effortless and add more weight to your overall sound. It's not about more boom or volume either. It is about clean, smooth, effortless reproduction. A single, or even 2 PB1000s are going to really struggle to give you that (*edit: in that large a space). There is no way you're experiencing what it's like to have your room truly filled with bass.

I got on YouTube and watched alcoholics and how to measure db's.
I think I measured it by two meters equals 3 db's.
Is that correct? When I got it up to 100db it hurt my ears! I was attempting to achieve THX (120db)levels.
But it was to fn loud!

103 is not painfully loud! What speakers are you running?

This is a cool little tool I like to share that can give you an idea of your power needs with a given speaker at a given distance. Just fill in the boxes for sensitivity, distance, etc. It takes a doubling of amp power to gain only 3 dB in volume! Most folks don't realize that. Plus if you scroll down there's a chart with some examples of different volumes and the osha safety recommendations.

To note, I recently learned that following osha safety requirements do not guarantee you won't have hearing loss. It's more of a minimum threshold type of thing. Here's the article where I read about it.

That's it, hand over your audioholics card...
I am sure I've had it that loud, but I've never measured it.

I just lost my card for longer with that statement didn't I..? :p

I don't even own a proper SPL meter!

One post caught my attention earlier I wanted to address also...

120 dB literally is the threshold of pain. To my understanding 85 dB average with room for 20 dB peaks (short bursts of 105 dB) is the thx reference standard. Play with that calculator I linked above to see just how much power it takes to hit 120 dB with your average (88-89 dB) sensitivity speaker. Even for short bursts 120 dB is getting into permanent damage territory.
