Using Denon AVR-4806 as an amp

New member, but I've enjoyed reading the forum for some time. My background, long time Denon Fan, still have my AVR-4800 in my office connected to my PC, and have had a AVR-4806 powering my HT for well over a decade. Speakers consist of Paradigm Studio 40, Studio CC, and ADP, with a pair of PW-2200, basic 5.2 that has served me well for many years. Since it only has 1080i HDMI, I am running optical from all components to the Denon, video signal is sent directly to the TV. I would say the setup is 75% TV/Movies, 25% music.

My quandry is this, a friend of mine upgraded his HT and is getting rid of his old AVR-x3300W, and has gifted me this receiver. Not sure what to do with it, but since it has Audyssey XT32, versus the plain XT in my 4806, I thought about putting it in my HT setup. However, the amp section seems way less robust than the one in my 4806, but since space isn't an issue, I could use the x3300 as a pre-amp, and use the amps in the 4806, bypassing all the processing. Added benefit, I could clean up the wiring, eliminating all the optical cables, and sending just one HDMI cable to the TV.

Thoughts?

Its a good idea to try, makes life easier with proper connections to the AVR.

You can run the 3300 pre-amp outputs to the 4806 multichannel inputs, and the latter will function as a power amp.

I'll pm you my mailing address and you can send it to me. I know, I know, it's a generous offer but I'm willing to take it on if it helps someone out of a quandary...

Very kind of you to help me out, but I may have earned it crawling around in attics and crawlspaces to help with the upgrade :)

Apprciate the responses. I figure since I already have some short interconnects, it won't cost me anything to experiment. Just to satisfy my curiousity, I may experiment with the sound quality using the x3300 amps, but I have been extremely happy with the sound of the 48xx amps for nearly 20 years.
