I have some money I can spend and am really close to ordering a PC2000 right now. I chatted with SVS and they think it'd match up well with my MK5s. They're both ported, and have similar fr, output and power. I have over 6000^3' of area to pressurize and while I'm happy with my current subs I feel like I could benefit from a li'l more headroom and flatten out my response better throughout the seating area. I have a pesky null and a lot of placement options for a sub with the PC form factor.

Last but no least, I love SVS and would love to have one of their subs (with a strong preponderance toward a second one down the road!) in the house. I think $699 they have them at right now is a pretty solid good deal.

One other option I considered would be to buy a speaker kit and build a pair of towers. If I go that route I'm gonna want something that'd make me rethink what a good speaker should sound like. A clear step up from my Ultras. I don't know what such a kit might cost tho, or even where to start as far as a style, best drivers for my use... @lovinthehd linked me to a couple of TL tower kits that looked promising but I don't remember what those were.

That's not a flat pack is it? Just the baffle? I'd have to build the cabinets?

Do you think they're a clear step up from the Ultras? That's so subjective and hard to answer without having heard everything, I know... you know, a PC2000 would be a hell of a lot easier and I know the finish will turn out right on it... lol. Sigh.

Wait! Save your money till June. You might need that money later. Unless you recently sold your subs?

Yes I believe your right. Need to buy the circuit board too. I would definitely email/call them to make sure you get what you need. They do need subs, but do get loud AF. 99db sensitive.
There are more but...

Yeah I saw that. 99 dB sensitivity is crazy!

For a first time out of the gates build I think I'd wanna cut my teeth on something a little more friendly, like a pre cut flat pack with all of the parts I need. I might be able to tackle putting the crossovers together but my big sticking point would be the finish. I'd want my main speakers to look nice and I don't have much finishing experience under my belt.

There are definitely other diy speakers to look at but those are very popular.

Try PE. They have a lot of variety, and you can do a small/med bedroom BS speaker to get your feet wet. AND get a PC 2k. Rofl.

I did not recently sell. I want a PC2000 (actually 2 of them, can only do 1 for now) tho! I have a huge space and I think I can squeeze out some better LF response with more subwoofage

LOL I don't remember the TL speakers now :) Diysoundgroup used to offer at least on some of their speakers flat packs and/or baffles, sometimes even assembled crossovers....

Maybe the Tritrix design at parts-express for the TL?

Yes, the Tritrix design sounds very familiar! There was another as well.

I dunno man. The diy route is a bit intimidating, at least getting the finish right, for me. I'd be way more into building a sub that I can hide somewhere and not be so concerned with the finish.

You're a big sub guy! You think a strategically placed, similar performing third sub might offer me some benefits (<6000^3')?

I'm more of the mind for a matching third sub :) I have used a similarly performing sub with my others, doing it now until I get into gear on building the final one :) Then they'll all be same driver/general design even tho one will be dual opposed.

Finishing can be hard, tho :) Especially if you want piano finish....but for plain black duratex is pretty easy to use IMO.

My thinking is to get another PC2000 down the road and have quad subs. I know they're dc'ing them but where there's a will... there's always the pro option too.

Ohh... you're saying a third VTF--3 MK5 aren't you? Ideally yeah, I know that'd be optimal but the PC is reduced to $699 right now. Another VTF would be $799 + shipping. That's really what got me looking at the PCs to start.

They do have pretty similar specs to each other.

That’s true. The upgrade path is strong at SVS!!!

@Pogre,

Should you decide to built a sub enclosure, let me suggest without hesitation the driver which I have been using in my HT system, the Dayton Reference 15 inch High Fidelity sub. I have three of them in my full range front speaker cabinets. Parts-Express is the seller, as a matter of fact, Dayton and Parts-Express are owned by the same people. They currently have a special on a partial kit for building a sealed box, but I strongly suggest that you find the space for a 9 cf ported enclosure. You could easily drive it with a bridged Crown XLS1002:

I am assured that you would be satisfied with the quality of that driver and its overall performance. You would be able to get 20 Hz at -3 dB. IMO, it would bring a lot of enjoyment for a very affordable outlay.

That's my $0.02

I just stumbled across a pair of Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2s with Raal ribbon tweeters in gloss black for $650...

$100 may be worth it, may not ? Altho at this time I'd say it's probably better to just hold off until things resume some sense of normalcy.....can you get Hsu now since they're on lockdown? I assume they are at least....
