How can I get 7.2.4 plus a zone 2

What I'm trying to achive is the ability to run a stream player through a dedicated DAC, and feed 2 channel music, in my theater and or to my basement zone. I prefer to not send that signal through a preamp. I also want to be able to run 13 channels which includes 4 atmos ceiling speakers in my theater for movies, I'm guessing a 16 channel AVR is one way to do this, but there has to be another way. I have a Dennon AVR 6200 9.1 channel avr. 11.1 with a seperate 2 chanel amp which I have. In my theater I have R ,L, C, RS, LS, RR, LR, 4 Ceiling Speakers for Atmos and 2 Subs. In zone 2, I have 2 channels and a sub. Any ideas for the task at hand?

I can't think of an avr that would have such an input as to bypass the pre-amp section for zone 2....but is the dac you're using all that special?

The DAC is a Exagol Comet, I guess I want to justify the purchase, by putting it to good use. Im using it now in zone 2 with a 2 channel amp, but I would to loop it back to the theater for 2 channel listening. Hindsight I might go another route, but if I had hindsight I would be weathly lol

Is zone 2 the same room?

ps Holy crapola, $2500 dac!?

pps See your comment about basement now. So how long an interconnect run is that?

Well...I can understand why you'd want to get the most use out of a DAC like that.

The Stream player/dac is a source on your system...you want to be able to playback 2 ch from this source in the HT room and another space (Z2).

Trying to replicate that on my system.

I have a Oppo 205 which is my stream player in this case. The DACs in the Oppo are supposed to be superior to the one in the pre/pro (Marantz).

Assuming I'm playing back a 2 ch file in my HT space, I make the oppo (streamer) the source and it plays on the main system. If I want the same source for my zone 2 (sunroom), I set it as online music and I get some options Pandora, Spotify, network streamer (oppo), etc...select network streamer and the same music plays in zone 2 from the same source/dac.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like the same thing.

Unless what you're looking to do flew over my head entirely, assigning the same source for both zones accomplishes what you are seeking for me.

The closest I can think of would be perhaps bypassing the dac in the avr by using the multi-ch inputs on the Denon, but no volume control? I can't think of how an avr would bypass that....

I have a OPPO 203, not exactly the same beast, buy I may be able to use it somehow. Remember i don't want to use the DAC in the OPPO, only pass the signal to my 2 channel amp and back to the Denon 6200 for the theater mains, and not through the dac in the Denon:rolleyes:

Looks like the parasound a23 has a loop out circuit, that can pass a analog signal to another amp. Thinking I could use the parasound to power zone 2, then loop the signal to the Denon, using a analog input like the phono input.

Okay, the 203 is a nice machine itself.

I'm gathering more info now....you have a Denon AVR, + a 2ch amp.

I assume you're using the 203 as your network streamer and the external DAC is connected to the 203.

It still sounds like a source issue. Thinking out loud here.

AVR Z2 to 2 channel amp via RCA...that should get you speaker power for Z2.

AVR to 203 via hdmi (media player) source

DAC to 203 via usb

Any playback using the media player (network streamer) as the source should be coming thru the DAC associated with the source. If the source doesn't have a DAC (such as internet radio, pandora, etc.) the Denon's DAC would be used.

I have a stream player(Salkstream 3) to the DAC, via USB to the 2 channel amp, via rca. The OPPO is connected to the denon as a player for movies right now, via hdmi.

Nice...looking at a Salk stream player as well. But intend to connect it to the 205 and go thru it as mentioned instead of a 3rd party dac.

The way you have this set up now...it's a very straight forward signal essentially going to source to amp to speakers...great, for 2 channel, but I think you have to go thru the Denon to get that same source to play in both spaces.

I assume your music is on the Salk. If so, the stream player should become a source on the AVR...then you can designate it to the 2ch (zone2) room.

edited to note...if I ever bought an external DAC, that's how I would connect it if I wanted to have the source play in multiple rooms.
