Okay so first off not only is Montucky in San Antonio he is right down the street from literally 5min away how cool is that?

Second as we were just bsing at his place I got to experience these

Never in my life did I expect to hear these any time soon and he has 2 sets!!!!

Now I can really understand why RBH is so highly regarded in these threads

These bookshelves were AMAZING.... Dynamics and scale first thing that comes to mind. Soundstage and imaging were suuuuperb

The treble well that Scanspeak tweeter speaks for itself. The midrange is neutral towards warm

The bass is out of this world. Crazy good crazy detailed.

I have see towers that can't do all the things these can do and compose themselves at higher volumes

Amazing experience and thank you for the treat Montucky

After this we loaded up that beast of a sub into my truck and away we go

Omg those are my dream speakers!

*swoon*
You are right to dream about these my friends they were outstanding here in a bit I'll post some more

They are a forward speaker but not in your face they way they jump out at you with dynamics scale and such a warm beautiful midrange and very quick and clear detailed treble I really really like this type of presentation or voicing as they say in a speaker

I have those speakers ... except for the "rock" cabinets! I always wondered how much difference the cabinet would make! I met a guy who was pouring his tower cabinets out of concrete, just chatted. Later wished I had asked him if he would let me come check them out after he finished and exchanged contact information!
Did Montuckey say the cost, I forgot because I knew it wasn't going to happen on my budget (and I have never quite been satisfied by soft domes)?
My pedestrian wood cabinet version are wonderful for mid-range detail, especially, and I wonder what having such a rigid non-resonant cabinet would do with that! I imagine it is stunning!

Okay so we haul this bad boy downstairs I dont know how Montucky got this bad boy up there by himself load it into the truck

We get it over to my house and unpack it into the theater room

It ends up in the left corner by the back row of seats

This is a powerful powerful sub I knew this going on but Damn we had to put it at 9am on the volume level just to level match it to the front SVS at 75 db

Next post will be listening impressions first with the RBH alone then combined with the SVS

I believe the MSRP on these from RBH are 15,000 a pair? Those prices may have changed tho and Montucky might have been able to get them for a different price I didn't ask him tho

I was too busy having multiple eargasms while listening to them

You may have posted it somewhere, but this is the first time I'm seeing your HT room with the JBL's in place! Those 530 look really bad-ass the way you have them on the articulated wall mounts!
Give us a shot of the front with the 590's somewhere along the way! Nice room!

How about some model numbers for us to look up if we're not able to identify in pix?

I forgot what gear you were getting due to your dad and the consultant he was attuned to, but you surely went a much more cost effective way to get great HT sound! It is hard to argue with those JBL's. Especially for a HT & music system!
Hope that worked out okay with the dad!

Thanks KEW! I finally stood my ground and told him I'd yank my equipment and not put anything else into it if he wouldn't agree to some of my stipulations on the speaker choices

At first he bitched.........

until I played music and then put in the first Dolby Atmos movie. Then.....

He put the bipole speakers away in the closet and now he's up here all the time. Anytime we have guests he's the first one bringing them up here to watch something or listen to music

It was really awesome to see his reaction actually

Those JBL's rock there is no way I'm going to need an upgrade any time soon. To improve on them especially for the sale price I bought them at would require me to spend over 5 to 10 x's what I spent on the entire set

It does sound really good in here

And know with that RBH sub blasting away up here with the SVS man it's amazing

But I'll get to that in the next few posts

This is there flagship baby the SV-1212PR with a 2400 watt RMS amp and dual 12's in this beast

When we hook it into the system we leave the SVS subs off and calibrate it by itself

It's port on the bottom is huge a 6inch heavily flared port on both ends

We set it too 75 db same level as my other 2 the anthem sees all the subs as 1 so you need to set them one at a time from what I understand I set them all to 75 db even tho your not supposed to with multiples your supposed to set it lower but I like my bass HOT!

So we fire it up only with the RBH

First thing right off the bat is its incredibly powerful Montucky is jumping from seat to seat to help gauge the room impact

There is some unevenness across some seats but overall WOW. This thing is shaking the room but not in that boomy way the bass is clean and tight but you just FEEL that room vibrate

In that left corner close by the back seats I thought it would be easy to localize but you really couldn't it blended very well with the 590's up front

It's fast very quick stops on a dime but super powerful with great low end when the content calls for it

It's very very accurate to the source it sounds like things are supposed to sound no boomyness at all with lesser subs

It's amazing with music period and just smashes the room with home theater. Streaming movies doesn't matter...

And then after getting a feel for it and deciding on blade runner 2049 as our reference disc we turn on the PB 4000's and boy oh boy stay tuned!

Curse you!

Sorry sorry I can't stop listening in here

Okay so once we flipped the PB 4000's back on man it became a whole nother level

It didn't get louder per say although loudness increased but the bass got CLEANER and CLEARER.

Montucky was jumping around from seat to seat and I tried a few spots and the bass response was so good literally across every seat

I always check in with @shady J when I have questions and was able to find out from him that the RBH and PB 4000 have the same or very close port tune

And since we are never going to max it out all 3 should have plenty of headroom to play well together

And play well they did we both thought we'd have to do some tweaking of the SVS especially but right off the bat they blended really well.

I'm about ready to pass out so I'll hit you fellas up with more tommorow
