Since were all chatting. We can take our attention back to me. How can I improve my Salon 2's? Sometimes I like a little more bass. Like that Tool album I listened to last night. It's got some great drum rhythm in it and some good low end that I hear but don't feel. I kinda like that thump in my chest. Some of you are real big on stats and measurements. I plugged them in and set up my dac. That's it. I've enjoyed them for a couple weeks now. Now it's time to make some improvements.

Either via equalization for some low end boost, or adding sub(s)....

I['ll have to start digging into the Anthem. I'm not sure what I can do with it. My pre-amp can't do anything for me. I have been considering a sub. I'm not ready to make anoter purchase. I really like my svs pb3k's. Do you think a single sb2000 will be enough? And your thoughts on how they might pair up with these speakers. Or should I be considering something more hi end

Might ask @Irvrobinson as he has those speakers and took some time to determine a good sub for his use with them in more than one room IIRC. Your STR pre-amp has bass management and I'd think with ARC can customize response curves....

Because very early on in this coversation, someone, (peng). or mabe it was someone else, wanted to know the difference between a denon and a marantz. I have both, I chimed in. And then it just blew up into this......
Your comparison is very misleading to the uninitiated. You're talking about comparing a budget entry level receiver to another that's 1 step below flagship status and costs 4x as much!

When I owned the Salon2, I used subs for the bass. I even set the XO to 120Hz.

I wouldn't worry too much about "matching" the sub with the Salon2. The nexus is that the sub is able to output the bass you want.

Where are you using your Marantz SR7012?
It is compatible with the Audyssey App.
I would try that before buying a sub! Since you have true full range speakers, it makes sense to see what you can get from them before spending more,
The Audyssy app costs only $20 and it is a phone (or tablet) app that allows you control over Audyssey. Based on your comments you should try it at frequencies below 300Hz. If that makes a significant difference, then you can spend more time tuning things. If not, the sub is a no-brainer.
To be sure, your experience is similar to mine (the problems were in the lower frequencies where the room has more control than the quality of your gear. Salon 2's are established as excellent speakers and I am certain they provide all of the response you need. The problem is you are limited in where you can locate them because they also have to act as your speakers! That is the key advantage of a sub (plus it will play lower for HT special effects and pipe organ). The room modes can be very problematic and often Audyssey cannot completely fix them, but it definitely improves them. If you do use a sub, you would still want to perform correction to compensate for room modes, so the Audyssey app is still worth the $20!
... to be clear, the Audyssey app will let you determine what frequency range you want Audyssey applied to and I am recommending below 300Hz as a starting test point to deal with room modes while not messing with the higher frequencies!
You would get the app through the Google Play store for android or whatever Apple uses for their apps, but here is Marantz's reference to it:

Edit: I had a brain-fart and said I have a SR7011, I actually have a SR7008. I went back and corrected my previous posts to read SR7008! I wish I did have the 7011 because it is compatible with the Audyssey app!

After the app, you could try one of the PB3000's upstairs with the app to see how it works for you. Use the app with it. If you don't get what you like, move your other sub up there to see if dual subs will get you where you want to be. From a sound quality for the money standpoint, I would be looking at dual Hsu ULS-15 mk2's

But I am sure a pair of SB2000's would do the job, and I would not blame you for being a SVS loyalist given their customer service policies!
Also the Hsu is a bit larger with the 15 inch driver (but that is what makes it a better value) - a 15" sealed sub gets you what I believe is an optimal blend of extension and output (if you are not in a huge room or looking for the deepest HT LFE experiences)!

You can improve them by sending to ME! I have 3 subs that would love to bolster them salons!!! I’ve been thinking about some f208’s actually!
And no. The sb2000 will not have enough dynamic range to offer the salons much at all. I have experience with one so...no.

And yes. Fear Inoculum is an excellent album with great drum work and drum sounds.
