My wife certainly has an effect on the volume limit, but I guess I'm a bit off-topic now.

LOL just hearing back from the OP would be best at this point.
I think the OP brought up something that most of us probably don't realize, that is, the volume "limit" of 98/+18 is just the maximum that the volume control can at it to, but not always, as per Jon AA's Chris K quote about headroom/boost management.

It would definitely be great if the OP returns with an update. I have now done enough experiment to more or less (not 100%) conclude the following.

No effects on the volume limit:
1. Manual level adjustment
2. Source level adjustment

Have effects on the volume limit:
1. Limit setting
2. Amp assign (example: my 4400 would set a limit regardless if 11.1 is configured)
3. Input assign
4. DSP related, such as Audyssey on/off, sound modes (DTS Neural:X, Dolby surround, Stereo etc.)

Things the OP can try are:
First of all, try direct/pure direct just to make sure volume can go to 98, then do each, some or all the following:

- To compare the settings between his 5011 and 5011, he said his 5011 was fine.
- In input assign, De-select "analog" in the inputs he's using.
- Set amp assign to 5.1 (that's part of making the settings the same as his 5011)

May need to disconnect the inputs, to clear things up because the AVR might have remembered the input characteristics, or pulling the plug for 10 seconds may do that trick too.

Too bad the manuals don't mention any of the amp assign, input assign, and DSP effects on the volume limit.

Sorry for the delay I finally figured out the issue. Today I decided to test another source by plugging the HDMI cable to GAME instead of DVD and now I can max the volume at any option. So it looks the DVD source have some limitation by the factory.

Did you ever go check the setup menu - inputs - source level and check what the settings are? Also interested if Audyssey on/off for the various inputs.

Is this a new-to-you unit? Did you ever run a reset to erase a previous user's setup?

I haven't heard of particular inputs having limits like that unless user set....

That's good, and thank you for the feedback. If you want to know the real cause(s) though, as HD mentioned, you need to check the related settings, including those I mentioned in my post# 23. The fact is, every input can work the same way the "DVD" does, it is things like amp assign, input assign, Audyssey, and sound modes that set limits to below maximum 98/+18.

Doing a factory default will likely restore everything such that you can have volume reaching the maximum with any and all inputs, but that would be only until you start using it in certain ways, such as assigning analog in the input assign manual for certain input(s),using certain sound modes, and Audyssey, that when things would change. The info I have provided in post# 23 here have been verified in my Denon and Marantz units, they are facts based, not opinion.

Thank you all for your feedback as well. I have done the following so far

2. Amp assign (example: my 4400 would set a limit regardless if 11.1 is configured)

- In input assign, De-select "analog" in the inputs he's using.
- Set amp assign to 5.1 (that's part of making the settings the same as his 5011)
4. DSP related, such as Audyssey on/off, sound modes (DTS Neural:X, Dolby surround, Stereo etc.)
DVD input assign is number 3 with all - - - - nothing is selected.

(I have done factory reset 2 times first when I got it (i'n not sure if its used or new) and second is after experiencing the issue)
I will need to save my configuration to my laptop so I can load them back I dont want to re calibrate anymore and having to answer what is this nose ? ;)

My one other test would be to try connecting that same source(DVD) to the 5011 and if I can go up to above 88

Did you try direct and pure direct? In those modes, you should be able to go to the 98 limit regardless of the inputs used. That should be the first test imo.

Did you try direct and pure direct? Yes I just did and now I can go all the way up to above 88 I had to stop at 92 because it was way to loud ( I love these rp-800f towers ) I did notice that the 6011 has 2 fans in the bottom of it amp but they are not running at the time.

If you just want to see the maximum vol limit you can simply turn your source (example: blu ray player, Apple TV etc.)off before turning up the volume so you don't have to hear the ear damaging spl.
