Most repair centers get $100 an hour, plus parts so likely the end bill will be at least $200..
If a comparable replacement AVR including warranty is $249, its a no brainer...

Just my $0.02... ;)

I think i missed this post, any reason in specific?
I've had bad experiences with Panurgy.

1. lower-end Denon AVR could not be fixed under warranty - smoke came out of AVR

2. Denon AVP-A1HDCI - could not be fixed, even under Best Buy Store Warranty and was sent to Panurgy twice since first time was not fixed, even though they claimed it was fixed. They claimed it was fixed twice in the end. But AVP-A1 still broken.

3. Refurbished Denon's that all arrived DOA for me (I was told they came from Panurgy)

Many of us have had great luck buying reconditioned AVR's through Accessories4Less:
They have the 930 for $240 and the 940 for $270, but the Denon AVR-X2400H for $300 seems like a sweet spot if you can up the budget.

I would stay away from Yamaha unless you can buy at least A1060, A1070, A1080, or higher. Their A860 was reviewed here and found to have some disappointing deficiencies. Because of this, Yamaha is not the best choice if your budget in the $500-600 range or below!

I'd pick one of the "X----H" series, depending on what you want. More $$ generally means a bit more power and a few more bells and whistles. You're paying full retail at BB tho unless you stumble across a killer sale. I'd suggest inquiring about open box/returns at your store and also check out what they have on their site. They should accept the same card if you order online.

You know normally I try to nudge guys in a bang for buck direction, but you seem like your needs are pretty simple and you don't necessarily want all the bells and whistles or a ton of power if I'm reading you right. If you don't have any plans in the future for expanding on multi channel surround or getting new speakers or whatever, the Denon AVRS750H will probably do everything you want and it would be the cheapest option in your case, imo.

Both the 740 and 940 should be last years models, and should be discounted pretty heavily!
From Amazon:
740 - $350
750 - $430
940 - $480
950 - $600
Among those, I would opt for the 940 at only $50 more than the 750!
Ignore the wattage numbers BestBuy uses. They are quoting non-standard wattage values. If you want to compare wattages, use the values in the link below. A4L does a pretty good job of being consistent across brands and they probably sell every AVR you are considering!

Yeah, those are the models he listed as available at his BB and I looked them up on Amazon (generally, the pricing should be similar) although, you are right, it would have made more sense to look up pricing at BB:
From BestBuy:
740 - $384
750 - I could not find this model although there was one which did not have a model number in the description.
940 - $493
950 - $600

I forgot you are running the Klipsch speakers, in that case, the 740 should be fine!

Yes! The 740. My brain was thinking 740 but for some reason my hands decided to type 750... lol.

Just so I understand, you opened this thread inquiring about paying for repairs? I'm assuming that you would not be going through best buy for that, and the general consensus seems to be that you'd pay ~$200 (or more) going that route. For less than $50 more you can get the same one you have now, a model year newer. You can get much, much better bang for the price at AC4L. The savings are pretty substantial and you can either save some dough in the long run or get something nicer...

*Edit: The 740/750 would be a step down from your 920.

I'm not positive that the X1500 is better than the S950 (I think it is).
I am certain that the X2500 is better than the S950.
If there is anyway you could buy from A4L, the X2400 for $300 is a very good deal - It kind of sucks that using BB you would pay $493 for the 940 when you could get the superior X2400 for $193 less at A4L!

Obviously, a lightning strike is not something you get to schedule. Personally, I would probably look to Craigslist or another local classified and find an AVR for ~$100! There are plenty of people upgrading their AVR who think it is not worth much because it doesn't have whatever feature(s) they are upgrading to!!
