Why can't they make Pro amps pretty?

Pro-amps have always been ugly and inconvenient to many consumers. They lack 12V trigger and some of them lack XLR connectors or something else we want. :D

I just saw this QSC 200W x 2Ch amp. It actually looks kind of pretty like a consumer audiophile amp. But then it lacks the XLR connectors and 12V trigger.

It is too much to ask? To make something like this QSC pro-amp, but add XLR and 12V trigger?

Or.....do some of them already do this but we just don't know about it because they are re-branded and sold for a lot more money? :D

While they are decent looking professional audio products, the SPA series of amps is designed for system installations only and can operate on 70 or 100 volt line speaker systems in PA installations. They use Euro type input connectors and don't provide for either XLR or RCA connections. In addition, they have a voltage gain of only 25 dB.

In summary, they are just not meant to be used in a home audio system.

The Crown XLS got prettier, they may get prettier yet. They do have a 12V trigger, just not the one most consumer gear works with :) Who watches their amp, tho?

I quite like this XLR equiped Wharfdale with a whopping wattage:

Nice face as well:

As in something I would have in my living room without the rack side plates. I wouldn't mind at all, but I would expect those twin fans to be audible (in between songs, of course :p )

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I always liked the round aviator analog style meters Carver used. Pro amps tend to use LEDs if they have any meter at all.

When did Carver do a pro amp, tho?

Carver didn't, although they certainly had enough power to be used as such with some XLRs installed. I was just commenting on the meter aesthetics, however. And no, I'm not crazy about the Crown look (kind of like a squashed boom box look). I liked the one Behringer amp I saw, but it's apparently not very reliable.

The new Behringers aren't bad looking. I haven't seen that many reports about unreliable, altho many simply dislike them and shitpost about them (like Bose) :) Altho I don't think I'd want to use a Behringer on the road or anything.... :)

Misunderstood what you meant about the Carver....I prefer the look of the M500 for vu meters on Carvers....

Not so bad either:

The Gain level controls can be hidden with a supplied plate with holes enabling pilot lights to be seen.

Nope. I think the Yamaha PX3 I played with a few months ago might be the closest thing without any RACK MOUNT EARS. But still no cigars. :D

I think the QSC PSA is by far the prettiest Pro Amp. I think it's the ONLY pro-amp I've seen that actually looks like a consumer amp from the FRONT view. :D
I think they both look great.

Simply put, pro amps don't need to be pretty when they are usually out of sight. If they work and don't have to be replaced often, that is usually good enough.

BUT, I get it. Would be nice to grab a huge stack of 2ch pro amps to have "unlimited" power.

Even if they're out and visible (like mine are)....it's easy not to look at them unless I need to maybe check if its hitting limits yet :) Mine are the old XLS, too...black they'd be much less visible...not like most black avrs or pre pros etc are exciting to look at either.

Is it because electricity is cheap and you like high SPL with a lot of speakers operating simultaneously? :D

I don't know. :D
Very professional looking.

Clean, durable, functional, available, changeable, legible, practical, visible, capable, agreeable, desirable, inevitable, justifiable, adorable, considerable but never regrettable.

I should have gone into marketing. :)
