Do I need a 4 channel amp?

Rookie here trying to buy an external amp to help run my system. I have 4 speakers in the system and most amps I am looking at are only two channel? How do I buy a 2 channel amp and hook it up to my system correctly?

It would be good if you described your system a little more, which reciever do you have, make and model, and which speakers do you have?
I assume you want to connect your front left and right speakers, in that case you connect from the left and right pre-out RCA or XLR outputs into a new 2 channel power amp (RCA or XLR inputs). Then the left and right speaker cables from the new 2 channel amp to the left and right speakers.

So I am hooking 4 speakers up to a 2 channel amp. So each channel will have 2 speakers wired to it. The speakers I have a Daniel Queens and I was told I should supply them about 100 watt to each speaker that is why I was looking for a 4x100 amp

You would need 2x 2 channel amps then, its usually not a good idea to connect multiple speakers to the same output. Need to know your reciever or pre-amplifier before knowing exactly how its best to connect and what you need.

Its a home stereo set up and I am trying to get the recommended 100watt per channel to each of the 4 Daniel Queen speakers.

Make and model?
The reason i ask is to see if they have pre-outs or not, also to see if they are very weak or not.
You dont neccessarily need 100 watts, thats a pretty arbitrary number, most of the time unless playing very loud the speakers dont get more then 1 to 20 watts apart from very short bursts.

Do you have a Preamp-processor to drive the 4 amps?

There's a lot at play here, Ryan... and to most of us, Sound Quality is the most important thing in our rigs! What you are talking about is going to introduce some issues. If you only have a stereo receiver, and are processing a true stereo signal, 4 speakers is likely to introduce some nice distortions in the way of comb filtering, and depending on how you set it up, potential delay issues too.
If you don't do it right, you may very well be shopping for some new gear... maybe an entirely new system!

I use this to power my 4 outdoor speakers. I bridge the 8x50w into 4x100w channels. Emotiva makes great products and this is no exception.

Better amps to be had over Emotive. Monoprice, Monolith or even Outlaws 5 channel amp you get 5 channels @ 120 @ 8 Ohms for about the same price.

For outdoor application that should be fine. You are not looking for Hi-Fi sound, just background stuff.

Cool! I think you'll like the Marrantz... at least I hope you do. There's a alot there if you ever decide to expand: 5 channels and a sub or 2!
