Marantz sr5012

I have the Marantz sr5012. It has 2 subwoofer lfe channel out puts. however in the levels section I can only level 1 subwoofer. There is also only in the speaker config option to choose just subwoofer yes or no. Not Sub 1 or sub 2. Is this just model limitation? I think it maybe be time to upgrade as I am running 2 subwoofers. Thanks for any info.

In the Marantz lineup you'd need an avr with the Audyssey MultEQ XT32/SubEQ features to have the separately adjustable subs (for level/delay); yours has the XT version. You could add something like a miniDSP unit to add that capability, tho.

ps Most avrs don't have this feature, usually just the upper end of avr lineups....the ".2" is just that you can connect two as most avrs simply use an internal splitter (pretty much same as a ".1" avr with an external y-splitter....)

Can’t remember the hierarchy, but my 6012 has xt32 w/subeqHT. When I first got it, I hooked up 2/3 of my subs and tried it out. Meh. Then I hooked up all three and ended up using rew and EQing the subs and running audyssey after. Funny thing...I’m EQing all 3 subs as 1. Flat to about 14hz!!!

The recent and current 6000 Series have the Audyssey XT/32 firmware while the 5000 Series only have the XT program.

I also just watched the video of Gene doing the rew video as I said in another post but now all this is coming together. Thanks guys I got it. lol. Hey marantz if you your reading this can you help out us 5000's series please and push the other firmware lol.

What other firmware you are waiting for? Also, if you are going to upgrade, why bother with the SR6012/SR6013 when you can get the SR7012 for $999 or the its first cousin AVR-X4400H for $899? I doubt those deals will last much longer, but if wait another year then you will likely get the same kind of deals for the SR7013 and AVR-X4500H.

I wonder if it would be as simple as a firmware update to upgrade that Audyssey feature for dual subs, or if the separately adjustable sub thing would be prevented by the internal "splitter" used on the MultEQ and MultEQ kitted avrs?

I am ordering a minidsp for now to try out. With the mic coming and rew ill really be able to play and explore.

Imo the minidsp is fun to play with, but I am not happy with the results at all and have it put back in the original package. I probably should sell it as I highly doubt I would spend more time on it and it has been idling for more than a year now. Which model are you buying?

I am confused by the word relative scale. Or should I start the pink noise for center, turn up the volume until say center channel is at 75db on spl meter and then match the other speakers? Cause I could be different on different avr's or is there a standard? Thanks again all for the info.

Which did you go with? I'd get an HD if I were getting one today (I have older units, an unbalanced and a balanced unit) but I imagine the balanced (think that's what the "non-HD" choice is now) would do fine.

Many of us like the relative just to have a common scale to refer to. Some avrs do it differently, some you need to adjust volume, others not. Check your manual.

I would get(and have) the HD version. Can’t remember off hand, but I just remember that the non-hd was not gonna work. Also seems like it has higher filter resolution and higher input sensitivity. The latter point makes it easier to drive.

The non HD one has lower output, less than half that of the HD version iirc.

The non hd version's output level is too low, not a good idea if you are going to use it for subwoofer integration unless your power amp gain is higher than the typical 28-29 dB.

Also, in my experience, unless you use with something like Dirac Live kind of REQ software, the REW generated kind of PEQ is not going to out perform Audyssey. I have not compared it with Audyssey XT, but XT32 can do a better job for sure, and I am talking about the HD version vs Audyssey.
