I’m a bit taken aback by the angst towards capitalism in this hobby. You guys do realize that innovation is largely due to free-ish markets. I’d recommend listening to The Eastern Border for how non capitalist economies work (or don’t).

What would you expect? If we’re going to allow them to collect data ... they’ll collect it ... predictive analytics are an essential element of modern big business. We have a firm love/hate relationship with metadata and analytics. We like it when the music app shows us a old song or band we might have forgotten but we hate it when we look at our phone and it says how long it’s gonna take to get where we are fixing to leave for.

I agree - capitalism is the best system conceived so far, as evidenced by the general decline in the power and influence of countries that deploy more socialism in their societies. And the ones that do have a modicum of success, like Norway, are small and subsidized by other countries. On the other hand, given the way humans are, every system needs rules and constraints. The challenge is that no one is smart enough to devise rules regarding new technologies and their deployment in advance, so the rules and constraints that make capitalism benevolent enough to be sustainable will always trail the implications of new technologies. And most of our political leaders are technological dolts, so the appropriate rules take even longer to develop and deploy than the public expects.

I think consumers are to blame. They create the demand and supply is the response to that demand. If we want less invasive technology we would have it. We don’t seem to care for the most part.

Angst? From the guy who thinks MAP pricing is killing capitalism? Our bastardized form of socialized capitalism may be the best thing going, true. Look at the pinnacle of our current society sitting in the white house as an example of the fruits of such.

It wasn’t a statement it was a question. I would like to think a rather perplexing question. Price fixing as a manufacturer is traditionally done through wholesale pricing. You don’t want it sold for less than a certain amount? Don’t sell it for less than that amount wholesale.
