Should a power amp be added with High Powered AV Receiver ??

That’s great cut and dry, the OP was wanting to use the same AVR on two separate pairs of speakers. Reading the entire thread in context tells you that. There is a way to do this on the equipment he has without turning speakers on and off and that is to use the second or third Zone pre-outs. I know this because I use the same AVR function for my HT and my patio for two channel listening. I don’t think anyone is saying there isn’t other ways to do this, but this would be the simplest way. There is no second inferior DAC on the unit he owns.

When I comment here I am not trying to belittle anyone, but to propose a fix. And I NEVER comment on equipment I am unfamiliar with. I apologize if you were offended sir!
I'm not offended. Why would you think you offended me?

It's just that this situation was over complicated by some false assumptions the OP put forth. The answer was as simple as this.

Having had played with these things over 50 years, both professionally and as a hobby, does five me some level of confidence of what I say, although I'm always open to learn new things.

I have no doubt your solution would work but his initial request could have been accomplished in a much less complex way.

Got you. I misinterpreted your tone. I apologize. I’m no expert either. I learn more on this site than I teach that’s for sure.

Not a problem. That happens often.

But, I will say that your solution would offer independent control of volume for each zone but, from what I understand from this thread is that he wants the AM10 for his HT and the external amp for a "music only" system with the 901's but he's changed direction so many times I just tried to refocus on the issues at hand.

And, I've never seen a receiver where one could not run it's internal amps at the same time the pre-outs were driving an external amp. If that were the case, one could not feed a powered sub-woofer's line level inputs from the junction of the pre-amp and the main amp.

That he doubled down on his claim when challenged did get me a little irritated though. A lot of people look here for advice and it's best that we assure what's posted here is true.

I don’t believe the model he owns contains a separate Zone 2 DAC, but since he isn’t proposing to set up use for HDMI sources in a second room, he should be able to listen to all of his sources through Zone 2/3.

Believe what you believe, unless I got it wrong, the op said he had the 4400, the fact is that it used the PCM5100 series Dac for z2/3. I have read the schematics, have you?

It probably won't make any audible difference to him but I thought I would let him know.

@markw appologies for any misinterpretation from te expression i assumed. You are correct about posting with zero assumptions that obviously lead people to derive correct info from this forum. What i meant above was certainly based on my experience from an older AVR that i used to own i-e DSP A2 Yamaha. I once again appologies If any of my comment offended you.
@BriReeves629 i tried it through zone 2 and guess what it worked absolutely perfect. There was no difference as i played it on both main zone as well as zone 2 using multizone feature. Great help. Thanks :)

I was not offended by the zone 2 suggestion and, in fact, it does have the advantage of independent volume control of both zones. But, you can see how much more complicated you made this issue by insisting that NO AVR's can run both external and internal amps simultaneously. That's simply not true, It would appear your A2 is an anomaly.

What did get me going was your blanket statement, and repeated insistence, that AVR's cannot simultaneously drive the internal amps AND an external amp. When questioned on it, rather than considering you might be wrong, you simply doubled down on pushing your mistaken belief in post 36 that it was the norm with another bogus statement is misleading to others who are still learning.

Posting from experience is good but that really depends on the experience one has. The more experience one has, the bigger basis for making statements. But when one has limited experience, one must keep in mind that it might not hold true for the big picture and try to not generalize. Many of us here have many years in this hobby and when many question something said, there might be some truth in their questions.

To put it simply, if the only rabbit you've seen is white, don't go around telling people that all rabbits are white.

Good for you, your avr is capable of very high quality sound too if power is not the issue, so enjoy the music!

Well, since issue has been fixed, @MODs may close the thread accordingly :).
