new sub for music room

So I've decided I need to add a sub to my 2-ch music system. Current setup is Salk SongTowers being driven from a Marantz AVR3803. The room is fairly large - 34 X 20 X 7.5 - and usage is music only. I've thought about the 12" Rhytmik sub that Salk offers just because it's so damn attractive, but can't decide if the price (~$1500) is justified. The ULS-MK2 from HSU is about 1/2 the price, although obviously doesn't have the finish quality. Any other suggestions?

I would get a dual sub system in order to have a flatter response. The ULS-15 will easily outperform the Rythmik sub, in fact it would probably outperform two of them, but that is more headroom than you will likely need. If you like to crank your system, the ULS-15 will foot that bill. But if you don't need that much headroom but want a nice black gloss sub, look at some SVS SB-2000s in gloss black. If you want more punch, look at some SVS SB-3000s. In this price range, its also worth looking at the Paradigm Defiance X12.

I'd love two subs but in that room, two subs = 1 divorce. Probably not up for that deal.

Marantz 3803? Your signature says it's a 6012....just made me curious since I'd never heard of a Marantz 3803. I know someone on the net (he's on the other coast) who has a pair of Rythmiks (think they're 15") with Salk cabinets and he's very happy but he tends to spend a lot on his av stuff too (he uses them with Legacy Aeris XDs). Hard to say it's "worth" the Salk cabinetry price but he wanted a custom finish rather than what Rythmik offered....

My fault. It’s a 6012, not sure what I was thinking with that post...
