Rega RP3 with Audioengine A5 sound issues

I just finished setting up this record player. The RP3 is hooked up to a Rega Fono MM mk2 preamp, and then into Audioengine A5s. Initially, there was no sound coming from the speakers at all. Thinking the issue was the RCA cables, I went to best buy and bought a new set. Upon connecting the new cables, there was still no sound coming through. Eventually, I spotted an aux cord on the floor. I plugged it into the Audio In jack in the speakers, which somehow triggered sound to start coming from ONE speaker. The volume control has no effect on the sound, and when you touch the other end of the aux cord, it causes hum in the system.

The speakers work normally when using only the aux cord to connect them to my PC and my phone, but seem to not work when using the RCA cables with the RP3 or my Samsung television. Ive been scouring forums trying to find advice, and while I'm not counting on hearing anything different here, I'm desperate!!!

What do you mean by aux cord on the floor? Explain your setup. Is it just the phono preamp to the speakers?

The speakers were sent with an aux cord. The aux cord wasnt needed to set up the speakers with my RP3, but when trying to solve this issue I found it, and plugged it in, not expecting anything to happen.

The set up is indeed just the phono preamp to the speakers. No amp because the speakers are powered.

You have a set of rca inputs and one output correct? Still not getting what the auxiliary cord is. Are the speakers new?

The aux cord has nothing to do with the turntable. I only added it in the explanation because for some reason, upon plugging it into the "AUDIO IN" port here, one speaker began working when before doing so, neither were producing any sound.

The speakers were bought used

I'm assuming that the aux cable is rca? What's the other end connected to? It should preamp rca to audio in on speakers, and you should have one output to second speaker that's it. Unless something is damaged it should work as described.

Sorry. seems theres confusion. When I say "aux cord" i am referring to an eighth inch jack line in cable. Essentially a headphone jack. It should have zero to do with my set up, and its really not important in the grand scheme anyway. Mentioned it only because it for some reason triggered the speakers to make sound!!!!!
That being said: i have rca cables connecting the speakers to the preamp. Rega has built in rca cables that also connect to the preamp. Then there are cords connected the two speakers together. The speakers, if plugged into a PC or phone using the eighth inch jack line in cable, work perfectly. Yet when i connect it the way its meant to be connected, through the phono preamp into the rega, only one speaker works

Have you tried another source with the rca inputs? Confirm if it's the issue?

Sounds like the speaker is damaged, as you appear to have hooked them up correctly.

When you hooked the rca from the TV did you have to change the output settings in tv?

Looks like it's the speaker as I mentioned. See if the seller will take them back since they were doa.
