Thanks but I jettisoned them when I moved. Didn't really know about the scrap value. Still have some Monster Interlink 100 and 300 as well as a sub cable in storage. Probably will never use them again but I have some spare interconnects if I ever need them. All in all decent but overpriced kinda like my entry level AQ cables now. But at least the AQs are newer.

Scrap yards don't care about coax, they only pay well for wire and cable that has a lot of metal in it. I took a box to a local yard that has scraps from several AV jobs and walked away with over $100, one time. That was around 2007, when China was hoarding the world's scrap metals while they were building for the 2008 Olympics.

Jogged my memory of a long time ago someone at an local audio store saying that they could hear that tarnish causing a crackling sound and needed replacing.

That's a new one.

I had a guy tell me that I should put Cramolin (the old version of Caig Deoxit that can't be imported to the US) on the power plugs of my equipment- said it would tighten the bass.

I hadn't heard anything about Monster going belly up. Its apparent demise would not be unwelcome news. Good riddance.

The skeptic in me suspects this could also be a cheap effort at publicity.

Most of its products are not bad, if unremarkable. But they are overpriced and overhyped. Monster earned its well-deserved miserable reputation by reaching new lows in their marketing efforts. However, if Monster does fail, I fully expect some other unscrupulous company to step forward to fill the vacuum. Thanks to marketing campaigns like Monster's, there is no shortage of gullible customers.

I agree...good ridance! Any company that thinks they own the word Monster, and sues every mom and pop business for using the word Monster deserves to be out of business.

I remember years ago buying their 2 channel amp, and when I hooked it up it had a ground loop problem... I called Tech support, and they told be to spend $1 to buy a plug that eliminates the 3rd prong. On a thousand dollar amp you want me to buy a plug instead of fixing the problem with your amp? Took it back...piece of junk!

Jogged my memory of a long time ago someone at an local audio store saying that they could hear that tarnish causing a crackling sound and needed replacing.

Both those stories remind me of the guy who claimed he could hear the sound qualities due to different types of plastic insulation in speaker wire. He claimed, of course, that teflon insulation sounded better .

Hmm, I purchased some Monster branded 14 gauge speaker wire back in 1986 which is still in use for all channels of my 5.1 system. No issues, wire is terminated in banana plugs. I purchased the Monster branded wire, since, in my market, there were no alternative brands available which appeared to be better values. As a sidebar, I got out my 64 year old train set to put around the Christmas Tree and noticed as I plugged in the transformer the wire insulation was so brittle it began t crumble in my hand. Of course, since this lamp cord is not low voltage I thought it prudent to solder some fresh lamp cord to the transformer to preclude burning down my house this Christmas.

If it had balanced and unbalanced inputs, you could have used the unbalanced. I had to do that with a Krell amp but the ground loop wasn't caused by the amp , it was because of the electrician. An amplifier manufacturer isn't responsible for eliminating ground loops, IMO.

It was not balanced as I recall, and every other amp I had used never had a ground loop...only the Monster. I also did some research, and found out it was a common problem with their amp.

I am pretty sure it was the cable that tarnished under that poor insulator of a jacket but yes, he could hear it from the speakers the crackling the tarnish caused.

I was always skeptical about spending £25 for short cable that had THX branded on it. Glad I never brought it. Daylight robbery. ebay grade cables best value going at monster low prices.

I bought Monster cable (10 gauge that I still use on my Carver ribbons) back in the 1990s, but as many have said, they got too greedy to the point where the prices were ridiculous. I also got two electronic degrees since then and discovered how much snake oil they really were for the price....

That's caused by an unstabilized PVC jacket breaking down and corroding the copper cable. PVC stabilizers cost money, so many 3rd world suppliers cut back on them.

No, I mean wouldn't feel as bad paying $20-30 for a run of 10 gage cable as $85 at the time.

I don't think it would be a good idea to buy a name with a bad reputation to start or either develop a company. In my opinion, it would be a Monster mistake!
