"Caravan"... What To Do?

highfigh

Seriously, I have no life.
No. 1 ain't gonna happen and No. 2 is already how it works here, or at least in the past you didn't need any immigration doc's to get a dl.

But RI is crazy. They think nobody's looking cause they're usually not.

My illegal alien friend got 2 dui's in as many weeks. The second one was for rear ending a parked cop car. He had a dl.
I had to bring my birth certificate when I got my temporary permit but that was before it was so easy to forge them.

My first ancestors in America were among the first landowners on Block Island but when they arrived in 1654, things were a bit different.

Nope.

The "caravan" is inherently political, seeing that it's being employed as a GOTV effort for Trump's base.

To those who live outside the closed epistemic bubble of current Trump tribal orthodoxy, this caravan thing is a big ol' nothing-burger.
So, you don't think Democrats want to allow illegals to vote because they want the votes? If Democrats make the changes that allow illegals to come in without restrictions, they're not gonna vote for the GOP and if the DNC wants one thing, it's to never leave office or lose their majority. While the GOP wants the same thing, the DNC is going about it a bit, er, differently.

Here's Pelosi thanking illegals for bringing their kids to the US-

But when we try to help these countries on a governmental scale, we're accused of interference and bullying.
Nice! Oh they love our Free Money, Free Aid, Free protection. Than they end up hating the USA or they hide extremist that wanna take us out. Not to Mention the drug kingpins and druglords using them as mules.

My fathers Dad was an Engineer in WW1, uncles in WW2, Korean War and oldest brother in Vietnam War. But my Ancestral roots are from Yorkshyre lower, Anglo Saxon. Thanks for that. I was wondering how the left would spin this against the right. And that's part of our problem. We can't talk about a problem or situation without assigning political motivation. So tell me, how should the US handle thousands of people traveling en masse to our border with the express intent of entering our country illegally? Do you have an idea/solution, or just criticism?
Puhleease. Your entire post is political. This is a "trumped" up issue for the scared old white farts. Too bad native americans didn't have such policies to keep out the european illegal immigrants! LOL

Amidst all the injustices of the day, the ominous specter of some poor latin americans approaching the southern border in search of a better life doesn't really fill me with dread. Their numbers are probably being exaggerated for the sake of sensationalism as well. If conservatives really cared about the prosperity of the USA, they would try to seriously deal with issues of poverty, poor education, overly-expensive healthcare, election interference, environmental issues, etc.

I dont get the trumped up issue. Looking at a possibility of at least 7k showing up at the US border....yes still 1000 miles away (30 miles a day I'll let you do the math) is that time for the 'caravan' to dwindle or grow? More than likely it will dwindle down (as these 'caravans' often do) I dont view it as a threat nor am i scared (i also don't live anywhere near the border) however I dont understand the population that is all for letting them walk freely into the states, before you know it all of central America will be flocking here, with no intentions of following any laws. Open boarder seems like a wonderfully idiotic idea imho.

Who said they are going to walk freely into the US except the numbnuts drumphing the issue? Did anyone seriously think they'd be allowed to simply enter by just walking across, especially under this administration? We have several thousand immigrants a day normally, too (or did not too long ago). These guys can either come in legally or apply for asylum. Did you see there's a second carvan now? Oh no run and get your guns! The most destructive immigrants of all time were the europeans (and what they spawned throughout the americas I suppose). Germs guns and steel!

Open boarder---is that a snowboarding or skateboarding discipline? :)

That's the sad part, people want them to be able come in freely (unfortunately I'm still on facebook so I get to see all this) they dont believe in asylum or applying for legal entry as it takes too much time.
I'm all for anyone coming to states, but both sides need to understand there are legalities that need to be followed.
The not so smart note9, thanks Samsung...I'm now referring to the border as a skate park.

Not so smart is the user using the predictive text/helpful word thing :)

I've not seen much of anyone thinking they should enter "freely". Legal immigration is fine, unless drumphied with racial/religious restrictions. Hey most white people here are the results of illegal immigration in any case, how bad could that turn out?

Just opening the borders wide with no controls is insane!
I'm not going to argue that no one believes that, because there certainly are some whacko's out there.
However, I hope you are aware there are supporters of Trump who will exaggerate the reality in an effort to stir fear. That is how the modern strategy game is played. If you can convince the Republicans that the Democrats want to just let these people in without any controls, then the Republican will rally behind Trump.
You may have noted that everyone who has posted here believes in going through due process, and that includes some pretty far left people.
I must conclude that either:
1) The people who want to open the border wide are a very, very small percentage of the population, or
2) This is false information, generated/exaggerated by someone willing to use a false narrative to assist Trump (and probably not Trump, himself, in this case).

OK. So more criticism, yet crickets waiting for a plan. No solution, no suggestion, just criticism and name calling. Tell me, what do you propose?

I agree that 7k of anybody at the border cannot bring down the US, but they can crash the border. And I agree the Right is using this issue as political ammo, as is the Left. A week before the election we would argue about chocolate or vanilla ice cream, and assign some deep and nefarious psychological meaning to your choice.

My question remains. What do you propose we do about the caravan? Do you have an idea a bit more substantive than name calling?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Shep is one of Fox's liberals, but he makes a point. The caravan cannot overthrow our country, but they can storm the gates. We've seen them tear down fences and gates. We've seen them riding trucks/trains/buses, so it's tough to predict their arrival time. President Trump has announced his plan to reinforce the border. I'm asking the Left what would you do?

I know you will call the President names. I know you will call all his supporters names. I know you will criticize ANY action he takes. The thing I don't know is whether you actually have a better idea, or are simply driven by disagreeing. We're on the third page now, and still no proposals from the Left.

If it ain't worth cheating, it ain't worth winning.
I think you have it backward.

Somewhat similar to "If it's not worth doing, it's not worth doing well". I have heard people say "Why bother?- Nobody will ever know" and my response is "I'll know".

They may not take over, but if enough come in and are granted certain rights & privileges, they could tip the scales.

Also, WRT people holding Sweden up as a model of where the US should go, it would be a good idea to watch this-

Mine came from Wiltshire, which may sound familiar since it's where the Russian spy and his daughter were poisoned. One member of the extended family and his wife were with Lincoln when he was shot. Another followed John Paul Jones (not Zepplin's bassist) as the commander of a ship during the Revolutionary War- after he and that ship were captured by the British and he was returned in a prisoner swap, he went on to capture eight British ships without firing a shot, according to the documentation. He was later captured and died in an Irish prison at the age of 36.

The quote "Everybody dies, not everyone lives" could have been said by him, too.

He was illiterate and a shoemaker, came here with £150 after his father died. I have to think that he didn't want to be there during that particular English Civil War, partly because he was a loyalist.
