making it appear that equipment between the source and speakers will soon be unneeded.
On unneeded I can agree if yoou can agree that in audio world unneeded is almost insignificant. MC tapes are coming back fo C sake.:) We have a young guy going all the way back to reel2reel.

actually I was being used to expand his music collection, and I knew that, but it didn't bother me. In addition to the music, I had my 1st peeks at playboy, penthouse etc...he was the big brother I never had!!

That evolved into my folks getting me my own music system later that year...(a low end RadioShack system) even back then I could tell that my LPs sounded better on his system than mine. Fast forward some 10-12 yrs and I bought my very 1st hi-fi stereo system...A NAD stereo pre amp, a NAD CD player, HK 2 channel power amp, and a pair of Linn book shelf speakers.
Don't feel used, It was a two way deal.:D Funny how your parents would rather spend and buy you a music system than have you look at those filthy magazines.;);)

Trust me...I never did feel used...actually kinda felt honored in way that this high schooler would let me hang out with him...lol...had to be a small price to pay for that I felt.

While I'm sure my mom may have suspected something, she had a detective nose...I don't think my parents ever found out about the girlie fishwraps...lol. I think when they saw I had 12-15 LPs bought over the summer, buying me something to play them on was justifiable.

My parents always listened to rock. I had to listen to music to fall asleep at night when I was a baby (apparently) so I can't actually remember when I got started. My grandfather sold A/V so my grandparents always had a sound system. So did my parents. My first was gifted to me (it was crap) and had an all-in-one record player, cassette deck, radio. I used it till I killed it. Then my Dad gave me his old 8-track player and his 8-tracks. Good stuff.

Then I finally got myself a Dolby Pro Logic mini system that was awesome back in the day. Then moved from that to real (cheap) speakers and an actual receiver. My system at 16 was way better than anyone I knew including parents. It was awesome.

My parents are still very much into rock. My Dad called me the other day asking if I wanted to go to a Five Finger Death Punch concert since he was in Austin for work. Sucks that it was on a Wednesday or I would have gone.

Bought some decent stuff while in the USAF in the late 70s. Then I moved back home and heard a friends GAS amp, Fons TT, Revox Reel to Reel feeding some large Magneplanar speakers. WOW!!! I was hooked for a long time after that.

Like most, it was my love of all things music that got me started into HIFI. Home Theater is just an extension of for my passion of music and sound.

The desire to listen to real music drew me in. I dont buy music to listen to an artist, I buy music to listen to my gear.

That's the EXACT opposite of me, though it's changed a little now. It used to be I'd hear something I liked on the radio, then go buy it. Now I hear something I like as I click around various areas of Tidal HiFi. If I REALLY like it, I buy the high res download or CD.

I may find some music that brings out some of the best qualities of one of my 3 systems and "make a mental note" of what it was. Now that I think of it, I should just create a short demo playlist for each in the Bluesound system and save each one.

I buy my equipment so I can hear more of the music I like. As my taste in music continues to evolve, I may need different equipment but that seems to also be an evolutionary process.

I received a Sears Silvertone record player as a gift in my pre-high school days.

After high-school and getting a job, to build credit I bought a 'real' stereo component rig with my first couple paychecks (and Dad as co-signer of the loan.)
Harmon-Kardon 330-B receiver, Advent speakers, BSR turntable.
