Marantz AVR REC turn on issue

Well I'm still a Denon/Marantz dealer.

But several factors have led me to the arms of Yamaha.

I was surprised when I tried the Yamaha CX-A5100.

I used to think that I could never get the same sound quality as Audyssey Dynamic EQ. I have tried numerous times with other Denon units, but I could never duplicate the sound of Dynamic EQ without using EQ.

Thus, I have said so many times on the forum that I could not live without Dynamic EQ!

But then came the CX-A5100. And I was so shocked that I could get the sound of Dynamic EQ as before, except now I'm not using any kind of Room EQ or any EQ at all!

Absolutely no EQ or DSP, and yet I can achieve the same dynamic sound as Dynamic EQ.

The stars lined up. Next thing you know, I was meeting with a Yamaha Rep and became a dealer for them.

Bottom line - my mind has been opened up once again. I used to think like @TLS Guy when it came to EQ - absolutely no EQ/DSP is best for sound quality. Then I found that Dynamic EQ was better. Now I can get the same awesome dynamic sound I love without any kind of EQ/DSP.

So I guess I have come "full circle" as Kurt would say. Well, maybe almost full circle.

I bet, especially if he tries a X4400h or x4500h, and realized how good bass can be, post XT32 SubEQHT plus 3 dB, and with DEQ on!!

People seem to be able to achieve great sound/bass differently, which is good.

If EQ (any kind) gets you there, that’s great. If you can get awesome sound without EQ, that’s great.

With the CX-A5100, I am getting the best sound/ bass I’ve ever heard and I don’t even have to use any kind of EQ to achieve this.

So am I now glad that Yamaha doesn’t use Audyssey XT32 or any other EQ (Dirac, ARC, Trinnov) to keep the cost down. I would rather Yamaha put that money into other things that matter to me - like making more reliable and compatible components. I don’t know - maybe put more money into better engineering, instead of just cramming everything into a box.

I just think about the irony- more expensive components (Theta Digital, DataSAT, ATI) have a lot less inside the pre-pro case than cheaper components.

I hope Yamaha is allocating their money toward putting “less” inside the case also.

So you're just using pure/direct on the signal now, no YPAO Volume?
