New speaker volume question

Ha... now on to better things other than speakers. I think I am done with my main audio system speakers. Now electronics is another question..

I have had a lot of trouble with my Parasound products. Although the current Integrated amp is doing OK in it's third month so far, and does sound really good. Although the remote failed to work for two days. Strange as it started working again on it's own. However I would like a bit nicer Preamp to run with my ATI amp. This way I can put the Parasound in another set up. I'm in no hurry and just toying with the idea. Next thing is to finish my room and add a few more room treatments.

I wouldn't mind putting a really nice high end Integrated amp in my system like the Marantz PM10. I have dreamed about hi end Marantz for some time now. But ultimately I want great sound and TROUBLE FREE components.

Nice. So I’m gonna crank them a bit tonight. With some volume these things sound amazing. They just sound so much different than any other speaker I’ve listened to. There is a sweetness to them. Hard to describe. The Revels are fantastic too. And if not for the boomy bass and bad driver, they would still be here. But kinda glad it happened. Everyone was right about Dynaudio speakers.

Out. What is strange about this is four plugs came with the speakers..I have never used any plugs in my speakers.

Full-range speakers with extended bass response often have problematic room placement requirements, especially in "small rooms". (I consider "small" anything less than 5000 cubic feet, and I have a small room for my HT system.) Different speaker manufacturers have different solutions to bass tuning in passive speakers. Some just tune the design to roll-off or shelve down the bass octaves below about 100Hz, thinking room-gain or near-wall placement will make up the difference. Some have adjustable crossover settings. (The Salon2s are like this, so were my previous Legacy Focus.) Some use plugs for ported speakers. And some manufacturers just like fat bass octaves because a lot of buyers like somewhat exaggerated bass. (I always accused B&W of this.)

There isn't a perfect answer, or at least an affordable one. I solved many of my bass challenges with a large room (8500+ cubic feet) for my music system, and speaker placement several feet from the back and side walls. That's not practical for most people, so you suffer through it and search for near-random solutions. It sounds like you found one. For years I only used ADS speakers, partially because their bass sounded good in the small rooms I used to have. Then ADS changed designs (and later went out of business) and I was stuck searching for better solutions. It sounds like the X44s are just what you were looking for.
