Took uber few months ago in Hyundai Genesis of 1 or 2 years old. Nether interior materials nor ride quality would confuse anyone with European luxury car.
That said, it's not about current state of affairs, but a trajectory of improvement and things looking like Korean cars are soon to be equal to Japanese designs. Chinese cars would be next.

Again you hold your opinion as fact but I only see subjective bias on your part because all of your opinions stemmed from your experience. Last year, I rented a Dodge Charger with a 3.8L V6. It was a ponderous, slow to respond to steering input, no steering feel whatsoever, steerin constantly needed correction and for such a big engine, slow. It cornered like a beached whale and the turning radius of a dump truck. My Santa Fe turbo wirh AWD, was far more communicative in the steering and turned circles around the Charger.
How does a beached whale corner?

I am not holding up my opinion as fact, I am just challenging gross generalizations.

I've never driven a recent Dodge Charger, so I don't have any personal opinions, other than I don't like cars that big. Car and Driver agrees with you on steering feel, but not on much else:

Agree about Korean cars. I drive them maybe once per year. Their rate of improvement over the past ten years has been amazing.

Sometimes I think that when I try to use the navigation system in the Audi. It is so lame I've told Audi and the dealer I want my money back for it. Both said I just need training.
Thats the least of the worries. I've never had so many engine component and electronic issues. I had to replace the steering column in a 320. $2000 just for the column. In the Jetta TDi? Don't even get me started: failed window switches, intermittent AC, clogged DPF, blown turbo... The list goes on. Thank god a storm came through and wiped the car out before I had to spend close to $6000.

My 1999 Altima made it to 214K miles, I still got $1500 out of it when I sold it. I only replaced half axles, fuel filler neck, oil pan gasket.

What model and model year? There are some YouTube reviews of the G90 that speak to a top shelf car.

On the other hand you can go and pick up a 2013 Equus, loaded, with 60K miles for ~$22,000. That's leather, sun roof, 5.0 litre V8, Heated/Cooled/Massage, heated streering, 4 way camera (360 degree view) etc...

That's a lot of car no matter which way you look at it.

I have 99 corolla. Currently used as home to park and ride commute. Bough it used back in 05. So far only things needed fixing are brakes, oil, brake lines, bulbs, some sensors and gaskets.
Not a single major part was replaced. Current odometer stands around 90k which is low for car this age.

Yes it's not that expensive, especially 2nd hand (I don't expect them to hold value nearly as much as impreza wrx/sti)
The features isn't the issue, i was talking about quality of internal materials and ride experience. It just not a match to European luxury

I've seen numerous reviews of the G70 and G90 and they don't mesh with what you are saying. Everyone has their own viewpoint however.

I was going to say thanks for the conversion but then I thought you might be f^%&in' with us. That's on a UK gallon. It's like 157 in US gallons but still, are you serious? I wonder what the electric bill goes up per month charging a car.
Not much. It's only an 8.8kwh battery, so it's only 5.5 hours on 110v to charge to full. Also, electricity in BC is cheap, because we run hydro and have a massive surplus. We have a weird tiered billing system, but it starts around 8.9 cents per kwh for the first 1350 kwh over a 2 month period, then it raises to 12.87 for the remaining balance. We ticked over to ~1650kms or so today, and we still have over a third of a tank.

I'm impressed. I had a guy in a Prius speed in front of me to cut me off. He got an immediate forgiveness because he was the first Prius driver I have ever seen not impede traffic. But that mpg rating is news to me and of considerable interest. My daily commute is about 150 km. I never thought I'd be lusting after a Prius.

It depends what you want out of the ride experience. Something like the Equus or the LS 430's are about the boat float. And at that they do an excellent job.

I've ridden in the Equus (2014 model) and I couldn't fault it for it's internal look, quality, feel materials. While less impressive than a $120K Merc, certainly better than a $60K Merc.

Don't know much about Hyundai Equus, but I will tell you, that the people who could spend 70k on a luxury sedan would more likely spend a bit more and get a Merc S class starts from about 90k and CLS class from $75k. Don't know about you, but I'd rather get CLS than Equus just from car image perception - after all - these are by definition show-off cars.

Cars like Genesis sport and Kia stinger are steps to the right direction, but IMO they could do better yet.

Keep in mind, that my round trip commute is around 60kms right now, and the Prius Prime has a 45km electric range (at most, you can't drive like an asshat or crank the ac and get 45kms). That being said, a normal prius would return you in the 4L/100km range can be cheaper to get into than the prime.

People like to complain about slow prius drivers, but they really are few and far between, the cars are efficient no matter how you drive for the most part. I did have someone speed around me and intentionally brake check me this morning, so that was nice. To bad his license plate was visible, calling the cops while in the car is so easy nowadays.

Depends on the buyer. If you're an egotistical git then you'll buy one badge, if you're a value git you'll end up with another.

I'm always on the value side. When I see a Merc I understand that the initial cost for them is only the beginning most likely. I've been burned once on a Merc, talked to plenty of other former owners and understand pride has it's price.

There's a reason Merc has even worse resale value than Kia. Think about it.

I despise CVTs. Every time I drive one I want to ditch the car. Knowing how they work, I'm not surprised to read that they have reliability problems.

They are cheap to make and get great MPG and are throw away transmissions … They are in most 4cyl cars now a days .. https://newatlas.com/honda-cvt-mid-sized-vehicles/23388/ They can not take the torque of a v-6 ..So most V-6 will have a planetary gear set https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravigneaux_planetary_gearset read your stickers well when looking for new cars

I may do this in the future. I'd say it seems like a waste of money, but buying a car in general is a waste of money....

Is leasing as easy as just buying a car?
