So I bought an Onkyo M-506RS amp and matching 306rs Preamp on Ebay. I've had some horror stories before, but this one is the worst, at least dollar wise.

It showed up and before I touched it, I knew it would be bad. I could see the amp through this hole:

Ok then, I drag it inside and open it up. Oh boy, it's bad, real bad. The preamp looks ok, but I didn't care all that much about it, the amp was what I was mainly interested in, and it was a mess.

Poor Timmy, he can't even look at it.

The back is bent up and some of the speaker terminals are messed up:

And the pics he put up aren't pics of the unit I got. I sent him 3 messages and so far I have...crickets.
Somehow, the front panel is fine. I don't know if it can even be fixed. I requested a total refund, including shipping, and I would send it all back so we would both be out about a hundred bucks when it's all done, or he gives me the units and I get $500 back, gambling I can at least partially fix it myself.

Why is packing so difficult when it's just common sense?

Seriously, I have no life.
The sender needs to file a 'concealed damage report' with the shipper and you'll need to provide these photos, including the packing material. If there's not much packing material, it's clearly the fault of whomever packed it, so I doubt the shipper will pay anything but you may get a refund if you bought it on ebay.

If you need to, then file a complaint with ebay. You should be getting back all of your $ under the ebay policies, they may even charge the original seller for return shipping.

Try to work it out with the seller first, but if you can't, then ebay will likely take care of the buyer.

I ordered a couple of items from a Big Box Store that were sold by a 3rd party (workbench and tool storage locker. Both items were damaged, but one of those 3rd party's was a nightmare to work with.
I took a screen capture of one of the emails I sent which pretty much sums up how my experience went.

Well, he did get back to me. He filed a claim and I'm keeping the packing and stuff for the investigation or whatever it's called. And then I'm going to wait, and wait..

Back in 2005ish I bought an Outlaw Audio Model 950 HT preamp. Shipping was via UPS with signature required for delivery.
I worked a 6AM to 2PM shift that say and came home in the pouring rain. Well what did I find sitting on my unprotected front porch, yep my shiny new preamp in a soaking wet box that was falling apart as I tried to pick it up! Well thanks to the unit being wrapped in plastic everything was actually okay but I was not okay with UPS.
So I took a five minute drive to the local UPS site to speak with someone about this. After explaining the situation to a bored clerk their response was "sorry but I can't help you". I got the same basic response from the email complaint I sent.

An update:

He never filed a claim with UPS, and totally stopped responding to me. Looks like this has been a scam from the start. At his point, Ebay is stepping in and refunding my money. I sent the damaged stuff back and that should be it.

Had that happen with some PSB / Onkyo. The speaker voice coils were burnt, the AVR damaged, I got all my money back, kept the hardware, ordered replacement drivers, redid the crossovers and they are still producing good audio at a friends house to this very day.

Several years ago, I had bought through eBay a Revox A77 tape deck. When I received it, the wood case was completely in pieces because the seller hadn't properly boxed the item.
The seller didn't want to refund what I had paid including shipping cost. I filed a claim with eBay and I got a refund after returning the item to the seller.

Yup, you should have tracking info, and once the tracking shows the item has delivered, you should be getting a refund (from this asshat), automated refund.

I would climb down the driver's throat and grab one of the plastic bags they should have for situations like this. The previous driver on my route used them, would hide packages from people on the street and if he couldn't leave a package for some reason (they can't, if it shows what's inside). he would leave a blank delivery tag and I'd go to the nearby industrial park to find him if it was earlier than 1:30PM.

If the driver didn't document the damage on this one, it was done by the driver. They didn't even bother to try to cover their own ass. THAT'S lazy!

One time, UPS put a receiver worth over $1000 on my porch in the rain (drizzle) and just left it there. Lucky for me, I came home just as the truck pulled away so it was ok. I knew someone at UPS, an exec, and called up and told him about it. No more dumb stuff happened again.

I'm lucky and my UPS guys is awesome, but man have I had issues back in the day.

I ordered something from Newegg and the UPS guy rang the doorbell and I had to sigh. I was confused since it wasn't signature required. He told me that someone had been following his truck and stealing all his packages. Wow.

Same house, different issue. UPS dropped my package off at the wrong house. I called and they said to contact the seller. I informed them that they are the ones that delivered the package so they were responsible. What's the seller supposed to do? I got pissed. Luckily my neighbor just brought it to me, but I quite using UPS until I moved away from that area.

Then there's USPS when I lived in DFW. Those people in that area flat didn't care. They apparently had no idea what the flag on the mailbox was for. They'd just put incoming mail on top of what was in the box and drive away. Or they'd ring the doorbell for a package and turn right around and walk away. No waiting at all.

Glad to say I have none of those issues where I now live.
