Don't be scared of accuracy, it's okay.

Have you practiced with the Harman How to Listen software?

I too am confused by the choice of sub forum, but to your first question - Harman's research proves that if you eliminate the sighted bias of the listener, you will get very different preferences of the exact same speakers, blind. And that even "professionals" are not immune to this. I think this important while also being humbling, definitely a good thing to have around forums!

Yes, I have practised with his software somewhat. And there is nothing wrong with the choice of this sub forum. When you look at the audiophile industry and the myths that are generated, ‘The Steam Vent’ makes perfect sense.

Assuming you are using 'better than laptop' speakers - practice til you get to Level 9 or higher. The speaker shuffler is a lot of fun if you happen to find yourself in Southern California!

The Steam Vent is used for off topic conversation. As I think only the occasional snake oil salesman will dispute the validity of Harman's research, (or those that take Pride in their self-diagnosed 'Golden Ears') I would have slapped this right in the Loudspeaker forum!

Seriously, I have no life.
I found a way to avoid being sight biased- for the purposes of the listening test, I have stopped caring which speaker I see or hear. Having listened to literally thousands of different speakers, caring about whether the speaker is one brand or another, looks better, etc has been beaten out of me to the point of only caring about the sound when I'm listening. Cosmetics only matters after the fact and then, they become part of the furniture if they're not built-in. While I listen, I often close my eyes, but not as a way of blinding myself to seeing the speaker, it's to allow myself to concentrate ONLY on the sound.

I'm more impressed by great-sounding speakers that are small or designed/built by some unknown person/company. Anyone can throw a ton of money at a speaker design but not all can get a lot of 'bang for the buck' that an independent sometimes does. Realistically, brand only matters when someone is selling something.

Maybe it needs to be brought up again, but this isn't the correct subforum for such really. You're preaching to the choir again, tho.
As I said earlier, this is the correct sub forum for this subject matter. The point isn’t necessarily about speakers, it is about the importance of blind listening and objectivity in audio versus subjective generated myths. The Steam Vent wins.

Not really, this is a non-audio sub forum for the most part. Your post belongs perhaps in speakers or general A/V.....but whatever....

Yes really, "The Steam Vent" "Talk just about anything you'd like here. Or, if you've got a beef about a manufacturer, or you just want to vent some audio steam... come on in."

Come on in. Good day sir.
