I found a way to avoid being sight biased- for the purposes of the listening test, I have stopped caring which speaker I see or hear. Having listened to literally thousands of different speakers, caring about whether the speaker is one brand or another, looks better, etc has been beaten out of me to the point of only caring about the sound when I'm listening. Cosmetics only matters after the fact and then, they become part of the furniture if they're not built-in. While I listen, I often close my eyes, but not as a way of blinding myself to seeing the speaker, it's to allow myself to concentrate ONLY on the sound.
I'm more impressed by great-sounding speakers that are small or designed/built by some unknown person/company. Anyone can throw a ton of money at a speaker design but not all can get a lot of 'bang for the buck' that an independent sometimes does. Realistically, brand only matters when someone is selling something.
