Dream Separates System

No matter how I approach it, my dream system ends up being yet other DIY projects. That's pretty much what I have been doing is building my dream systems.

I'd love to build a tube amp. It doesn't seem so looney (tube vs. SS debate, etc.) with regard to performance when you build it yourself. I am finding that in spite of the debates on these subjects, just about all of these things are very enjoyable to listen to, once you cut the restrictions of always seeking a single, superior system.

Realistic drums, mids, etc.? Go big or go home. This idea of trying to sneak displacement dispersed over more, smaller drivers under hunny bunny's nose is ridiculous. Half the time I think this trend is perpetuated by men who aren't allowed to have larger speakers and don't want others to.

That said, one dream system would be a set of those big ol' JBL 4355's in a room 'just' big enough for them and an assembly of DIY amps. I was fortunate that a member here directed me towards the Fusion-12's, based on my penchant for larger drivers. In spite of the current trends, these larger woofers end up delivering some very convincing performance. Still, the 12's end up being at the beginning of what I consider big enough. Give me a set of 15" woofer based speakers that can play well just below reference level and above, and I can work the rest.

I think dreams should be big, but they don't have to always cost a fortune.

I'm definitely a big fan of large speakers as well.

Some guys look at my living room setup and would sneer, "Man, your speakers are bigger than your TV!"

I look at them and assert, "Damn, straight my speakers are bigger than my TV!" :D

Good points. Drums from what I hear from guys that do the recording/miking/mixing drums are by far one of the most difficult. Capturing sound accurately is as much of an art as making music.

For me, finding good recordings of orchestra and acoustic guitar seem to be difficult. I love piano, but it's the same. Not that great of recordings from what I've randomly tried. I don't even have that great a speaker system and I can tell the recordings aren't that good.

I know I could do more research to see if I can find some that are better, but other than here I wouldn't know where to look.

I've auditioned many a high end speaker, but never had or heard any source material that really made me go "wow, that makes a big difference".
If you like pipe organ music, one excellent recording which was originally released as a SACD is now discontinued. I have a copy of that disc which was selling for over $100 on eBay last year. However, Linn reissued it in the CD format. Since the recording was outstanding, the CD format would perform also pretty well. It seems to be available only from England at a reasonable price:

https://www.mdt.co.uk/poulenc-concerto-for-organ-petit-english-chamber-orchestra-linn-records.html

Any CD or SACD on the Linn or Chandos labels have outstanding recordings. You can trust me. I have a several of them. Chandos only has classical music, but you can however get jazz or classical CDs on the Linn label which is owned by the company which makes expensive audiophile stuff.

Another British online store that sells classical CDs at competitive prices where I frequently buy from is:

https://www.prestoclassical.co.uk

If you don't have this Drum & Track Disc, I strongly recommend it. It's not cheap if it's still available:

The Sheffield Lab "Drum & Track Disc" It's has a 24-bit 352.8KHz Mastering format on a 99.9999% Pure Silver layer. That explains it's price.
With that recording, you have an outstanding presence and you need good woofers to correctly reproduce its contents. For me, it's a must for any serious audiophile who likes jazz. It features improvisations by Jim Keltner and Ron Tutt.

Since we're dreaming here, and where spending dream money. why stop at a 250K car? How about a NASCAR. Now that's a car man, just don't try and make a pitstop at your local dealership. lol.. I'm out! ADTG! man it was hot in that Stockade. No AC, no TV, at least the guards where singing some tunes. Talked with them about double blind test after that talk all night they kept switching lights off and on in my cell.

Stockade? Cell?

Everyone dreams differently. Fast cars like this Lexus don't interest me. Well, okay, I'd get one too. :D

For me, since I'm not a billionaire, the Lexus LX 570 is all I want.

If I were rich, then the Mercedes G-class SUV would be my dream car. Well, actually, I would drive both and alternate days. :D
