As I said, I tried to remain neutral so I cited the theoretical advantages but reflected on being skeptical about whether the advantages would translate into audible improvements. Based on posts on this and other forums, I believe most people don't believe in the benefits, but I should have it worded it in a more balanced/neutral fashion. Thank you for pointing this out, I'll see if it can be edited.
I recently passively bi amped my speakers with my monolith 7 (bored one day, had the extra cable) and can't tell if it's any better or not. It'd be easier if I could switch between the 2 configurations instantly. The one thing that did change is now my speakers pop when powering up. It's not scary loud, but there is a pop now where there was none before.

I would switch back to the way it was before then. :D

I get that a lot. My friends think I'm nuts, lol.
@Pogre, Lol..In light of this hobby, with all the technical advances moving at the speed of light, it's no wonder some think of us Audio/Video, Enthusiast, Audiophiles, Elites with this hobby as eccentrics. Nuts? Nah man, the ones who don't understand never got it in the first place. My Roll, Audio isn't any others Roll. :)

Does it go away when you switch back or swap the upper and lower amps?

If you want to try quick switching, these stacking banana plugs work well. Simply stack and unstack at the amp:

They are much easier to tighten than other locking banana's that I have tried and the plastic shielding helps protect against shorts.

I haven't switched it back yet. Call it lazy. But yeah, it never popped before. Like I said, it's not loud to the point I'm worried about damage. Just a light pop in each speaker.

I think that is a bit harsh. I don't see anyone getting "all mouth and trousers."
I think there is just some to and fro banter.

I think we should look at the issue from a functional point of view, which should be the point of any categorizations.

So I think the point particular categorization is to separate systems which keep voltage amplification separate from power amplification.

So if a preamp has a tuner or not is of little to no consequence in terms of powering.

So I regard it functionally as a separated system if the power amps are discrete in another cabinet with its own power supply.

I believe this to be best practice and it allows for easy interpositon of devices between voltage and power amplification like active crossovers. It also allows for an unlimited arrangement of power amplification.
You do realize how expensive separates can get? A box for each and every ' component' or components which ever You prefer to call them. A separate preamp, A separate amp, A separate tuner, A separate source, A separate EQ, A separate processor for all of the different formats for surround sound, A separate for streaming 'PC' Wi-Fi' Net radio, A separate HD tuner. A separate for satellite HD radio. Could go on and on now tell me, where do you, Hide All the expensive cables, Don't get Me started on Speaker's for surround not to mention just L/R mains that some people have Monoblock amps for. You have 13.2 system set-up in your dedicated home theater room and you have Monoblock amps for each and every speaker, that alone would take up Sooo much room You would have to add on to you house or give up the car garage where you park your two-wheel scooter. See now how that sounds ridiculou?.. Oh what about all of the HDMI converter boxes, pull down 180" screen for viewing with the overhead projector?. Should I go on? Yes to some of us it is..avr, Avr, AVR!!.:D. Jesus himself would say all that isn't necessary. Man I love this HOBBY!..:p

It can be less than the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop:
2 = 1 Processor + 1 Multi-channel amp.

Pogre, Your monolith amp, it' very dynamic, the 8 ohm specs alone would drive Any speaker built on the Market, up to and above reference levels and not break a sweat with nothing but sweet music to the ears. Your a Brave man in my book, My multichannel amp has about the same build and output. I sure hope it's just a glitch like, maybe one of the jumpers isn't right? Just guessing here.

Not so much brave as bored. And I like to tinker. Check my thread where I disassembled one of my Ultra Bookshelf speakers. That was fun.

Anyhoo, it's a common configuration and I have an amp that can actually be utilized for it so I gave it a try. Still getting that faint pop tho, so I'll probably be putting it back the way it was. Nothing jumped out at me as far as improved performance anyway. If there's a difference it's subtle enough that I don't hear it.
