Problems

Hmm i am in a very sticky situation now. Today, when i plugged in my phone to play. (on the speaker that works) the one that's usually lower suddenly worked. I was away from home a couple of days and i have done nothing to my speakers or stereo.

Now o feel pretty unsafe, as many 1 star reviews on amazon for example have complained about the stereo automatically switched the volume and destroyed their equipment. And even if the stereo works now i feel pretty freaking scared lol. But i can of course not send the stereo in if it works...

By the way if someone have recommendations on a new stereo, i live in Sweden but have access to the german https://www.amazon.de/

Of topic a bit: Can my stereo actually blow my speakers? Klipsch says they can take 100 w 8 ohm. And onkyo only 44w in 8 ohm. I have no knowledge just saw the statistics.

It could indeed be the cord! Especially if it was some dime store bargain. The wires that came with my JBL speakers that was added to the kit by the seller have to be just so or they barely work. And then you better not breathe on them wrong after you get them to play.

The reports are that this fault is very intermittent. It seems to get worse with frequent sudden changes in volume.

I think if you were not nearby and a channel went to full volume, which as you know is reported, then yes, I think it would blow a speaker.

If it were my unit, I would not be using it.

I have a feeling like others, you may well take a loss on this unit, but talk to Onkyo and let them know that you know, these volume problems are not just with your unit. Ask them what they propose to do about it.

Its not really the power that damages the speakers, its the clipping of the signal which occurs earlier with a less powerful amp.

This is unfortunate. Looks like this unit was rushed to market. This should have been found in ruthless product testing prior to market. This is a very bad black mark against them.

It's not ideal but it will function while you decide what to do in the long run, altho the Technics unit's performance is limited.

Nothing was implied its a rhetorical post. You stated your annoyed not being able to listen to some tunes. So you posted your father's gear and wanted to know what others thoughts would be if it be okay to listen to music on your father's gear. Posting links to some of the gear you have with some of these old timers on this forum is nothing new to some of these guys. People come on forums all the time. With issues, chat a lil about it, than start posting up links for gear and other manufacturers products some would call that clickbait. Again nothing was applied with my post but since you ask me directly my response speaks for itself. Enjoy the music on your father's old gear probably better than most of the new gear out now.

My man, wasn't grudging on you..lol. I have been there to believe me. I had to put gear in for service many times I was really just relating to your experience with gear. I had to send back two brand new sub not even open cause UPS or someone had drop both Subs damage was done so bad to corners of the sub was unbelievable. Had to send in AVR'S for service, yeah I was Feenin like an addict without his fix, wanting to fire-up my set-up to watch a 3D move but couldn't. No apology necessary my friend. I feel ya, all I was trying say was Man, hook-up your father's gear to your set-up get your fix. Only Audiophiles, Enthusiast and the Elites of this hobby understand that feeling. I mean after all We are Audioholics, right? Look where we hang-out at!
