In my book, it cannot be considered as one of the best drivers if you need to EQ it to achieve a reasonably decent smooth response. As you know, there are other subwoofers on the market that don't need that kind of processing to do an adequate job IMHO.

I did some verification using the BassBox Pro software and that driver, in an IB operation, won't reach low frequencies unless you EQ it. It's Qts is too low.:)
It represents, when properly EQ'd, a good driver for movies and rock music, but not for serious music listening.

Of course, we have the right to disagree.
Then why not suggest an RE Audio XXX. It's the sealed listeners sub for sure.

There are a bunch of new-ish DIY drivers available as well that are pretty awesome. Funk has started releasing drivers. I’m drooling over those.

With all these new drivers, the minidsp and chip amps. It's a great time to be in DIY. Plus you have folks putting out kits that are amazing speakers. We had some kits back when I started, but nothing like we have today. Of course you could also just build a TL that hits 20hz.

Ricci’s Horn with LMS Ultra was what? 27 Cuft? No big deal :D

Yea the kits out there right now are amazing. IMO, there’s not a huge incentive to get into speaker design with all the kits available and the very very very good designers out there who are willing to custom design for a fee. I got my center channel kit from Rick Craig for only a couple hundred more than I could have bought all the parts for myself and I know what he came up with is a heckuva lot better than what I could do.

I put my lms ultra in the enclosure thats 7ft3 after all displacements tuned at 20hz with a 16" x 3" size port. my buddy came by with his jl audio fathom 112 and my lms ultra blew it away with every song we threw at it. I think it sounds great but if its better in a different box I cant wait to hear that!

Not only transmission lines can reach 20 Hz. Nowadays, a lot of subwoofers can reach 20 Hz in a ported enclosure. It all depends on their T/S parameters and the way the bass reflex cabinet is designed.

For instance, I am using three 15 inch Dayton RSS390HF-4 subs in my HT system as woofers of each front channels enclosure. Each one reaches 20 Hz at -3dB. without any EQ. Some experts even advance that TLs are not any better than a well designed ported box, despite the fact that they are more complex to build than vented designs.

my sub is crazy loud with a 25hz test tone going thru it! I don't really care too much about below 20hz because you can barely hear 20hz let alone 15hz. definitely a lot of air going thru the port with 20hz or 25hz test tone. could blow a girls hair no problem so I probably need a bigger port but not sure if a new box would be that much better to justify it! my box is built with 1"MDF with very nice window bracing and all joints are glued. just a really small port!

If you love the way it sounds then I'd leave it alone.
