Can i hook up a crown xls802 from a powered mixer using a y cable?

I have a yorkville mp6 powered mixer. I want to come out of the main line out to a crown xls802 power amp to run channel 1 and 2....mains. I will use outputs of Yorkville for monitors. Crown has male xlr inputs. Can I take a 1/4 inch out of Yorkville into a y cable with xlr connectors to channel 1 and 2 on crown amp?

Good chance that cable won’t work. The manual for the Yorkville doesn’t specify if the monitor output is balanced or unbalanced. Since it doesn’t say one way or the other, I’m assuming it’s unbalanced.

If you're referring to 1/4" line output jacks, go ahead. The Crown has low impedance inputs, so it's best to use low impedance outputs- unfortunately, the Yorkville manual doesn't show output impedance. It does show that the output jacks (Main and Monitor) use TRS, so it may be OK. It may be easier to find a 1/4-XLR cable and an XLR Y-cord. If you have a nearby music store that sells Hosa accessories, they should have these.

You are more than likely correct, as mixer main outputs are nearly always unbalanced. I think the crown amp does have unbalanced connections as well. He could Y to those with TRS connectors wired in unbalanced configuration.
