Kef C35s + Adcom amp

Hello!

I have a pair of KEF c35s. I am trying to figure out which amp to get and the adcom 545 or the 5300 are some of my strongest options. If I want to play my Ipod or computer will I need a pre amp or would connecting them straight to the 545 work?
What benefits would I get from a preamp?

Thank you very much!

just buy a receiver that's stable into a 4 ohm load and call it a day ............

As for separates, going that route will give greater flexibility if you so desire down the road.

sure, it's a two channel power amp. You will need a 'preamp' of some kind, either a stand alone or a receiver with 'pre-outs'

I doubt your iPod has the output voltage to drive either amp but not sure, I looked around a little and saw greatly varying numbers but didn't dig into apple literature; the computer who knows without details but maybe. The 5300's sensitivity is .9V, the 545 1.25V.

Why do you want a power amp instead of something more useful like an avr?

Thanks for looking it up!

Because for that money I think it is the best option I can get to deliver 150W into 4 ohms which is ideal for the KEF C35s.

I have two avrs that do that easily enough....but if you can't put sufficient voltage from your sources into the amp, you're not going to get the full output power either. Why is 150W "ideal" for those speakers?
