Hello all
I have an Onkyo recever. TX-SR506 with an HDMI "pass through" with 3 ins and one out
Have an TV with HDM IN (3 4 of them)
From teh DVD Blue ray player I run HDMI cable into one of the "ins" in the AV receiver, and then out from receiver to TV

The issue is that I want to watch video on the TV screen, but I want sound to go to the speakers. !! I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
I ran hardware setup on onkyo receiver, but still sound goes to TV.

I can listen to music from CD player tray or from Turntable on speakers, but if I am in DVD mode, everything goes to TV audio. Can I change that?

I have only bookshelf front speakers.

Thank you

I see this statement on page 29 of your manual:

If you want to listen through the speakers connected to the AV receiver, in addition to an HDMI connection, you’ll also need to make a separate analog or digital audio connection.

Have you made such an analog or digital audio connection aside from the hdmi cable?

lovinthehd, thank you.
Yes, such a connection I made. I don't have (anymore??) the manual, but I understand the concept and was making such connection from optical out on my DVD player (in addition to HDMI). I am using it this way.
I was asking for the reason, if it was possible to have true HD out, split - so the video goes to TV and audio goes to speakers.

No problem. You can download the manual.

I didn't re-check the manual, but see if you need to change the audio assignment for the DVD input....

ps In re-reading your response it doesn't seem from that other bit in the manual that you can utilize only hdmi input.....

The way you have hooked up HDMI from the BlueRay player to Onkyo and then from Onkyo to TV is correct. You can remove the Optical cable. That connection is not needed.

Your issue (most likely) is that none of the HDMI inputs are assigned to the DVD function.
What about the bit on page 29 about needing dual connections....seems this avr has no audio capabilities via HDMI (and it does say just a video connection in your C&P).

No problem, didn't know they had made such avrs before this....seems a waste to throw away the audio capabilities like that.
