These high-end gears (speakers and electronics) are definitely fun to play with and look at.
What makes me laugh the most about the 802D3 isn't the $7K price hike, but the specs:
1" tweeter, 6" midrange, 8" woofer = fake FR of 14Hz-35kHz (the F3 was close to 40Hz on Stereophile).
14Hz, really?
When I bought the Linkwitz Orion, the price was around $9K. Then about 2 years later, the price increased to $15K, but that was due to actual design changes and subsequent cost increase and inflation.
So the $7K price hike by B&W isn't a total shock to me, assuming B&W actually added some cost/ design changes to the speaker, not just hot air.
Now in terms of being in awe with the SQ of these expensive speakers? There is a good reason they do double-blind testing when comparing speakers & amp - so that you don't take a look at the speakers and see the $22K aesthetic or price tag.
If you are lucky enough to own them in your house, well, just like anything else, IMO based on my own experiences, the honeymoon period will eventually end.
I'm definitely just one among many guys who have owned and then sold high-end speakers like Salon2, 802D, Likwitz Orion, etc.
There was a time when I was more into analyzing, critiquing, and critical listening. That time has past. Now I'm all about enjoying the actual movies, TV shows, and music.
