Im deciding to get Yamaha NSIc600 or NSIC 800. I bought 4 IC800 to try out for 7.2.4. I had yamaha a3070. I adjusted manually the level of ceiling speakers to 8.5db but I can barely hear the the down firing on atmos. Is that a bad speakers. Im not an audio file and just trying to stay on budget . Here is the picture on the spec of ns Ic800 Is the frequency -10db matter on the atmos ceiling. Are these speakers only for music? Thank you all!

What material were you testing with? I wouldnt set the speakers +8, I'd let the avr set them, then raise no more than 3db. Effects channels are effects. Run rest tones to confirm each channel is the same level.

Down -10db is the from the speakers linear extension. Most manufacturers list the - 3bd point, while some will include the f10 (-10db) also. For atmos the Yamaha will be fine

Welcome to AH. :)

You need to read the manual on how to do the auto setup that uses the mic that came with the receiver.
This should properly level match all you channels with the internal test tone. You should hear a noise switching usually starting in the left front speaker going clockwise. Once that is complete then play that movie. The receiver display should say that it is Atmos someplace once the movie starts not during the intro and previews.
Let us know how this goes.

When an atmos movie starts you get the intro test...the overhead speakers get a signal that's pretty noticeable.

Let me ask since I don't have Atmos, does that tone comes with all such BDs?
Then, what is its purpose? Just to show that Atmos is on that disc?

Good question...I'm not the movie buff so I don't have that many, and most of them are atmos...I'm guessing but I think most BDs have a little intro clip highlighting the surround mode.

Oh, so, I am guessing, there is an intro video and audio as Dolby and THX used to have at the beginning on the disc that this is an Atmos disc?

Keep in mind that when going to 11 speakers, you often end up using different brands of amplifiers. If this is the case, the output of one amplifier can be very different from the other. In these cases you should let your receiver determine the output levels (Dsp setup, Audyssey setup, ARC, Dirac, etc) and then tailor them to taste if you want.

That's what I did. Set my external amp to a specific level bypassing all EQ and let Audyssey figure it out. It works perfectly.

I grabbed a bunch of demo material for Atmos and DTS:X that is available on the web. I also "acquired" a copy of the Dolby Atmos demo disc.

I have quite a few Atmos/DTS:X movies, but since the theater isn't all set up I haven't watched any of them yet.

Yes...same thing.
OK, understand. More reason for level matching all the channels one way or the other: internal auto or internal test tone and spl meter but not sure if that test tone works in the Atmos channels as it does in the others.

Where can I get the dolby demo that I can load it to my USB to play? Thanks!
