Hi!
I have a problem with connecting to MusicCast, any help would be much appreciated. I've been trying since yesterday to connect my RX-V679 to MusicCast app installed on LG G4. I did update firmware on amplifier as I had problems in even initiating "Connect" function, then I went through all the procedure, I have chosen my WiFi network, typed in password, it did says "connecting - waiting for connection 2/2" and then bam - error - 20315.
Anybody knows how to deal with that? I tried to find some info online, but could not find anything relating to this particular error. And what I am really trying to do is to connect my wireless speakers to amplifier, I figured out that MusicCast is the only way of doing this wireless.
Thanks,
Mike
What brand and model of wireless speaker?
The AVR has Musicast, but that doesn't mean wireless speakers will work with it if they're not made by/for Yamaha. If they're Yamaha and MusiCast-enabled, read the manual. Nobody wants to read the manual, they only want to look online and find it immediately. The info won't help if you don't actually understand the system and its requirements.
Speaking of requirements, you seem to be ignoring the biggest one- your network. Your equipment needs to be near the router or an access point that can send/receive a strong signal, for two main reasons- first, it needs to be close enough to receive the signal in the first place and second, because low signal strength equals slow speed. Also, if you have a lot of network traffic, it doesn't work well. In addition, WiFi CAN'T be as fast as a wired connection.
If you really want to see the network speed and find a solution to the WiFi issues, download Inssider on a laptop computer and look at the networks near you- you may have several on the same channel, it will show your signal strength, you can compare your network's security settings with the rest of your equipment to see if some kind of conflict exists.
Everyone sells wireless as the best/easiest way to do this stuff and IMO, the manufacturers are doing a huge disservice. They may be assuming that most of their equipment is being installed by people who know how to diagnose network issues and who know the intricacies of the AV equipment but that's not the case. If your router is in one corner of the house and the AV system is in an opposite corner and you have several walls between them (plus a big, horkin' refrigerator, fireplace, masonry walls and heavy building materials), your signal will not get there at a usable level. You may see a signal strength indicator that looks good, but you may not be getting the quality connection you need. If you have a laptop, do an internet connection speed test and find the speed of the connection to the router- on a Windows-based laptop, you would find the network at the lower right corner of the screen, right click and select 'Status'. This is usually in bold type, unless the connection hasn't been made and then, Status won't show up, at all. If you're using WiFi and you see less than 72Mbps with an older 802.11n computer and router, you'll never have good performance but you'll need to get some info about your equipment in order to know what you should see. Wired, a Gigabit connection should be 1.0 Gb.
If possible, hardwire ALL of the equipment in your AV system, especially if you plan to stream music and video. Since you want to use MusiCast, that implies you won't always be in the same room and if the WiFi isn't up to the task, your connection to the AV system will be lacking.
What network equipment do you have? If it's much more than about 4 years old, it's probably past its useful life unless it's hardwired.
